Tyler Higbee was born in Clearwater, Florida and played both football and baseball at East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Higbee finished his high school career with over 1,100 yards receiving and 18 touchdowns. He was a two-star recruit and committed to Western Kentucky in 2010. At Western Kentucky, Higbee played 11 games his true freshman season but then redshirted the following year. He became the Hilltoppers starting tight end during his redshirt senior season where he finally posted some impressive college stats securing 38 receptions for 563 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Tyler Higbee’s senior year production led to a Senior Bowl invite however, Higbee did not play due to a knee sprain. He was invited to the NFL Combine but was unable to participate in any drills however he was measured with a height of 6 feet 6 inches tall and a 10 ¼ inch hand size. Higbee’s injury limited his ability to test at Western Kentucky’s Pro Day but his was able to post a 4.67 40 time which translated to an impressive 85th-percentile 106.9 Speed Score. At the conclusion of the pre-draft process, Higbee was selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the twelve pick in round four.
Higbee had a quiet rookie season but become the Rams primary tight end his second season in the league posting a 76.2-percent snap share. Prior to the 2019 season Higbee signed a contract extension with the Rams and soon after became fantasy relevant. That season Higbee saw a 15.9-percent target share and led all tight ends with 19 Red Zone targets. He finished as the TE10 in fantasy points per game and caught 69 receptions for 734 yards and three touchdowns. 2019 was Higbee’s most productive season however he had a career high 83.4-percent route participation in 2021 and led all tight ends with 20 Red Zone targets.
Tyler Higbee has two years remaining on his contract with the Rams and will likely remain a solid low end TE1 for as long as he remains on the Rams roster.
