Tyreek Hill Bio

Tyreek Hill is a starting wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins. Attending Coffee High School in Douglas, Georgia, Hill won the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the 2012 Georgia state track meet. Hill ran track and played football at Garden City Community College in Kansas before transferring to Oklahoma State University as a highly-touted junior college recruit. In 2014, he played 12 games for Oklahoma State and recorded 31 receptions, 102 rushing attempts, and manned kick and punt return duties before a season-ending suspension. Even so, his 1,811 all-purpose yards ranked No. 11 in the country that season. Hill switched colleges again in 2015, transferring to the University of West Alabama. He was again used as a utility player. He recorded 237 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries, as well as 444 yards and one touchdown on 27 receptions as a receiver. On special teams, Hill averaged 10.7 yards and returned two punts for touchdowns. He averaged 23.0 yards on kick returns and added another two touchdowns.

Hill's production fell off a cliff as the season progressed, however, and with of off-the-field issues, he was projected to go undrafted by NFL teams. After an impressive Pro Day, however, Hill was selected in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. His 40-time, Burst Score, Agility Score, and Catch Radius are all 94th-percentile or higher. As a rookie, he compiled 61 receptions, 24 rushing attempts, and 53 returns, accounting for 10 total touchdowns. Over time, Hill rapidly moved up the depth chart of a potent Chiefs offense and put up seasons of 1,000 or more receiving yards in four of his first six seasons.

After his age-25 season in 2019, Hill signed a three-year contract extension with the Chiefs worth $54 million. In 2021, he ranked No. 7 in targets with 159, No. 3 in Hog Rate (19.2-percent) and No. 3 with 1,709 Air Yards. He also ranked No. 11 among NFL receivers with 2.31 Yards Per Route Run and finished the season as the WR6 in fantasy points per game. Despite years behind him, Hill continued to be one of the most dynamic athletes in the league, ranking among the top-20 fastest ball-carriers in the NFL among all players, per Next Gen Stats.

In the 2022 offseason, Hill lobbied for a deal that would make him the highest-paid receiver in the league. The Chiefs opted to trade Hill to the Dolphins for five draft picks, including first- and second-rounders in 2022. The Dolphins signed Hill to a record-breaking four-year, $120 million deal with a guaranteed $72.2 million. With fellow receiver Jaylen Waddle, Tua Tagovailoa under center and head coach Mike McDaniel designing plays, Miami has one of the NFL's most explosive offenses. Hill had his most productive season to date in 2022, posting 1,710 receiving yards on 119 catches and a massive 15.9 Yards Per Reception. He also led the league in Target Rate, earning a target on over a third of his routes run (33.6-percent), and Yards Per Route Run (3.38). Hill has reported he will retire after his current contract with the Dolphins, but not before making good on his vow to record a 2,000-yard receiving season.

Hill's campaign for the elusive 2,000-yard season was off to a good start in 2023, as he recorded eight 100-yard receiving games in his first 13, but then zero 100-yard games in the final four games of the year. He was hampered by ankle soreness. Hill still put up 1,799 receiving yards (the highest of his career) and 13 touchdowns.
