Dallas Goedert Bio

Dallas Goedert

Dallas Goedert is a tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2018 NFL Draft with the 49th overall pick. The Eagles gave up a fifth round pick to move up three spots and select Goedert ahead of their division rival Cowboys. He played football, soccer, and basketball at Britton-Hecla HS in Britton, South Dakota and walked on at South Dakota State, where he went on to be a captain as a senior. Goedert was named an FCS All-American twice during back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons at South Dakota and has a dominant college production profile. At the 2018 NFL Combine, Goedert measured in at 6’5” and 256-pounds with 10.25-inch hands and a 32.8-inch arm length. He ran a 4.64 40-yard dash at his Pro Day, 75th-percentile speed for a tight end.

For the early part of his career, Goedert was the 1B in an elite tight end duo paired with 1A Zach Ertz. In his first three full seasons, Goedert saw gradual upticks in targets per game and PPR points per game. The Eagles traded Ertz midseason in 2021, and Goedert saw career highs in Target Share, receiving yards, and PPR points per game. Prior to the Ertz trade, Goedert had only one game with a Snap Share above 90-percent. After the trade, he reached that threshold in eight of 12 games. He finished among the top-10 tight ends with eight Deep Targets and a 26.9-percent Target Rate in 2021. Most impressively, he led all tight ends in Yards Per Route Run with 2.93 and Yards Per Target with 10.9. With the 4-year, $59 million extension he signed prior to the 2022 offseason, he will be in Philadelphia for the foreseeable future.

After producing as a low-end TE1 for three seasons running, Goedert leapt into top tier of fantasy tight ends in 2022. He averaged 11.8 (No. 5) fantasy points per game as part of a consolidated Eagles target tree. Goedert snagged 55 receptions for 702 yards in 12 games played. His 10.3 (No. 1) Yards Per Target was due to deep targets he received from Jalen Hurts over the middle of the field.

Despite consistent optimism every year Goedert will take the next step forward, it hasn't happened yet though. In 2023 he once again missed time due to injury and only finished as a TE1 on four occasions. The Eagles' offense as a whole took a step back, with Goedert struggling to find targets after AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Looking forward to 2024, the addition of Saquon Barkley figures to further strain already the limited number of targets to go around in the offense. As a result, Goedert will be left as the fourth option in the passing game a lot of weeks which will hinder his fantasy production. He likely will finish outside the top 12 fantasy tight ends once again unless one of the Eagles' top pass catchers were to suffer an injury.
