Royce Freeman’s play noted by Stephen Jones
The Cowboys backfield distribution going into 2024 seems like a bit of a mystery. It has been largely assumed that the return of Ezekiel Elliot along with the lack of a notable weapon added in free agency or the 2024 draft would leave Rico Dowdle and Elliot to handle the backfield touches. Stephen Jones took to the local airwaves to give us another name to note in journeyman Royce Freeman. Jones would say they we’re surprised that Freeman was available and plan to use him in the backfield and on special teams.
Freeman has impressed so far in camp and is now a nice stash for dynasty managers. In redraft Elliot and Dowdle are already late round selections, so it may be best practice to make freeman your last round pick in bestball drafts.

The Dallas Cowboys have signed free agent RB Royce Freeman to a one-year deal
Royce Freeman will provide depth to a surprisingly thin Dallas Cowboys’ running back room that includes Rico Dowdle, and Deuce Vaughn. However, the Cowboys starting running back in 2024 likely isn’t on the roster yet. They will be a strong candidate to add a back in this month’s NFL Draft which will leave the above running backs in complimentary roles.
Freeman can be left on the waiver wire in most formats, but is a stash in deeper dynasty fantasy football leagues. While Freeman won’t be the starting running back week one, if he makes the team, he could be valuable as injuries always play a factor. Freeman recorded four top-30 fantasy finishes in 2023 when given an opportunity with the Rams. With the Broncos’ offensive situation so bleak though it leaves him as a less desirable handcuff.
