Marquez Callaway is a wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints. He was born in Warner Robins, Georgia and attended Warner Robins high school where he played football and basketball. He was named to the AAAA First Team as a defensive back in 2015. Callaway was a four-star recruit and despite being recruited to play basketball committed Tennessee in 2016.
Marquez Callaway played one game as a true freshman for the Volunteers where he returned a punt for a touchdown. He then saw regular playing time for Tennessee as of his age 19 season where he broke out for 406 receiving yards on 24 receptions scoring 6 touchdowns. He got better every year at wide receiver culminating in a 635 receiving yard senior season where he averaged 21.1 yards per receptions.
Callaway was invited to the Senior Bowland declared for the 2020 NFL Draft. Despite displaying an elite level Burst Score of 127.6 and registering a respectable 4.55 40 time Callaway went undrafted. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints. Callaway saw minimal playing time his rookie season but was pressed into the starting lineup in 2021 after Michel Thomas missed the entire year due to injury. Callaway led the Saints wide receivers with a 17.9-percent target share and a 29.8-percent Air Yards Share. Unfortunately, these opportunities failed to lead to much production as Callaway finished the season with only 698 receiving yards and six touchdowns good for a 8.9 fantasy points per game (no. 55).
Callaway is on the final season of his contract with the Saints and then will be a restricted free agent. He will likely look to build off his 2021 season however he may not find much fantasy production with Michael Thomas expected to be back in the fold.
