The Washington Commanders choose QB Jayden Daniels with pick 2 in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Rumors swirled around the Washington Commanders 2nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft for weeks. Clickbait stories involving Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels had fans wondering what the Commanders would do. Trading the pick remained a possibility until NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell strode to the podium and put all speculation to rest. The Commanders were selecting LSU QB Daniels.
Following a college career which saw Daniels begin as a tiny athletic freshman with a noodle arm and a running QB profile, and end as one of the most prolific QBs in NCAA history, Daniels takes over a Commanders team that hasn’t had a solid QB in years. Leading an attack that includes Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Cole Turner, Daniels is the only QB in history with 12,000 yards passing AND 3,000 yards rushing. In Washington, Daniels could hit those numbers in 4 seasons.
Daniels is physically in rarified air as a fantasy QB with his production profile. The kind of numbers he put up in college place him in a tier with Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Jalen Hurts. Caleb Williams is the consensus 1.01 in Superflex Dynasty rookie drafts, but Daniels isn’t far behind him, and judging from his college output, could easily out produce him in the first couple of seasons.

LSU QB Jayden Daniels participated in interviews at the NFL Scouting Combine, and then he left.
The NFL Scouting Combine is supposed to act as a player’s showcase. It’s a way for a prospective draft pick to show what he can do and increase his draft stock. Even bad players participate. LSU QB Jayden Daniels left early.
Daniels is widely tabbed to be taken in the first 5 picks of the 1st Round of the NFL Draft. He was present in Indy for the combine and was interviewed, but he skipped out on being measured, the drills like 40-yard dash time, and throwing to the wide receivers. Daniels’ will still be a Top 5 pick and we’ll see him at his LSU pro day, but when other players are participating and you aren’t injured, leaving early is not a good look.
Jerod Mayo shared in an interview that the Patriots plan to “draft the best player for a position that is very important. You put the pieces together.”
Jerod Mayo sent the fantasy community ablaze with his latest quote that strongly insinuates the Patriots will be drafting a Quarterback with their 3rd overall pick. While there were some speculations that the Patriots may be targeting Marvin Harrison Jr., Quarterback is a clear position of weakness for the Patriots.
Mac Jones has steadily declined in his three years at Quarterback for the Patriots, throwing less touchdowns and scoring less fantasy points each season. It’s clear there is an opportunity to upgrade the position, and there are three Quarterbacks in the draft that project as top 10 picks: Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels. At this point, you have to imagine the Patriots would be happy to secure any of these three as their Quarterback of the future.
