Quain Williams was rated as a two-star recruit coming out of high school and joined Eastern Michigan as a member of their 2017 recruiting class. He redshirted his first season and failed to register a stat in 2018. In 2019, Williams finished second on the team in receptions (52), receiving yards 9661), and receiving touchdowns (6). 2020 saw Williams fall down the receiving pecking order and seeking a new school to showcase his talent.
Williams found his new home at Buffalo and he proceeded to lead the team in receptions (64) and receiving yards (835). Williams would fall back to beind the second option in his final season in 2022, as Louisville transfer Justin Marshall finished with more receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
