Former Seahawks and Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is signing a 1-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
One man’s trash is another man’s gold. Embattled quarterback Russell Wilson is signing a one-year $1.2 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In what will go down as one of the worst trades and contract extensions of all time. The Denver Broncos released Wilson just two years after giving up three players (quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, and defensive tackle Shelby Harris), two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and a fifth-round pick in exchange for Wilson and a fourth-round pick. Then Denver signed Wilson to five-year, $242.6 million deal after he arrived. Wilson went 11-19 as the starter for Denver. Denver now has to take $85 million hit in dead money over the next two seasons. Yikes….
Now on to Pittsburgh, Wilson will compete with incumbent QB Kenny Pickett. Much like his time in Seattle, Wilson looks to be a good fit with the Steelers due to their emphasis on good defense and a committed running game. Russell still has a good deep ball to pair with wide receiver George Pickens and a good running tandem in backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren. Wilson should be able to continue head coach Mike Tomlin’s non-losing season streak. Let’s hope new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is better back at his old position then as head coach.
All Steelers players should get a boost with Wilson’s presence. The Steelers were relying on their defense to also score touchdowns and that should be all you need to know about Kenny Pickett. Russell Wilson will likely be in the QB12 range again like he was in Denver.
