Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson Limited in Thursday's Practice
3 months ago

Steelers starting quarterback Russell Wilson popped up on the team’s injury report, per Steelers Depot. Wilson is reportedly dealing with calf tightness again after missing time earlier in camp with similar issues.

Roughly one week ago, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin officially named veteran Russell Wilson as the team’s starting quarterback. Despite a supposed quarterback competition between Wilson and Justin Fields in training camp, Wilson being named the starter seemed inevitable. Coach Tomlin and other staff members repeatedly said Wilson was in “pole position” from the jump.

With Wilson reappearing on the injury report with the same ailment, the quarterback situation is once again in the air in Pittsburgh. Backup quarterback Justin Fields is surely itching to get back on the field and establish himself as a starter in the NFL. Of course, the Steelers could just be playing it safe with their 35-year-old quarterback, but it’s a situation worth monitoring. If Fields gets the start in the season opener this Sunday, he instantly becomes a top-15 option in fantasy football thanks to his rushing ability.
