Christian McCaffrey will miss at least the next four weeks after being placed on IR after having his “worst day” with his achilles injury this week.
McCaffrey’s fantasy managers are in absolute shambles right now. The player who seemed like the obvious 1st overall pick in fantasy drafts is now potentially going to miss a large portion of 2024 with an injury that was widely disregarded headed into the season. No procedure is expected to be needed for him to make a full recovery.
This news bolsters the value of Jordan Mason significantly, especially in redraft formats. Mason tallied 147 rushing yards and a touchdown in week 1 vs. the Jets while playing 81% of the teams snaps, and is expected to see a similar workload in any games McCaffrey will miss going forward. Fantasy Managers who roster McCaffrey should try and scrap and claw their way to the playoffs and hope CMC can return for a championship run. Fantasy Managers who roster Mason in redraft should only trade him for a large haul, otherwise they should just ride this wave for as long as it lasts.
