Dynasty Ups and Downs Week 3 | Players to Buy and Sell in Dynasty Fantasy Football

Football is back, and so is the weekly column, Dynasty Ups and Downs. Each week, I will present players to buy and sell (dynasty trades to make) based on their evaluation in the Dynasty marketplace. As we all know, Dynasty fantasy football is an ever-changing landscape, and the best way to succeed is to stay one step ahead of the competition. This article aims to do just that.

Below, Seth Diewold gives guidance on dynasty trades to make – identifying players who are buys and sells in dynasty.

A Note on Week 2

Caleb Williams is going to be fine. But it might take some time. Also, be patient with some of these elite tight ends. It’s only been two weeks, and there is more than enough time for these players to recover and produce for your fantasy teams. The last thing you want to do is go out and make a bad trade out of desperation.

Dynasty Buys

Rome Odunze

This Bears offense is going to be better. I know the offensive line isn’t great, and Odunze is slightly banged up, but it really looks like he is going to get opportunities to shine in this offense with Keenan Allen battling an ankle injury. Odunze is a talented wide receiver with top-10 draft capital who some dynasty gamers are using as trade bait for their win now teams. Take advantage of the discount while it exists because this Chicago offense won’t be this bad for long.

Kyle Pitts

Through two weeks Ray-Ray Mcloud and Darnell Mooney are out-targeting Kyle Pitts. That isn’t great, but this offense looks like it is coming into its own with an improbable win on Monday night against the Eagles.

It may be exhausting for some fantasy gamers out there, but I still believe in the talent of Kyle Pitts, and I believe Kirk Cousins can get him the ball in this offense. Better days are ahead, and as a result I’m buying low on the ultra-talented, not quite 24-year old tight end.

Chris Godwin

If there was ever a case to be made for buying high on a player, Chris Godwin would be the case study. Through two weeks, Godwin is the WR1 in all of fantasy football. He is operating in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense which is making him a priority in the offense. Because of his age (28 years old), dynasty gamers aren’t rushing out to buy him just yet. Currently, he’s ranked as the WR30 according to Keep Trade Cut. That is way too low for a potential league-winning wide receiver.

Dynasty Sells

Michael Pittman

I hate to say it, but it doesn’t look like this wide receiver/quarterback marriage is built to last. Anthony Richardson is a playmaker who looks to throw the ball deep down the field to speedy wide receivers. Pittman can create space over the middle of the field and can win contested catches with his size and strength.

Unfortunately, Richardson isn’t an anticipatory thrower at this stage of his career. Maybe someday he will be, but it would be wise to capitalize on the value Pittman still has, especially if you are a win now dynasty team.

Kyren Williams

I’ve written about Kyren Williams before, but the simple truth is it’s even worse for him now. There is no Cooper Kupp nor Puka Nacua in the offense for an extended period of time. The Rams offensive line is banged up, and there is no way Williams is going to last the season if he continues to take on a 77-percent plus Opportunity Share in this backfield. After all, he missed four games last season. It’s wise to cash out on Williams if you can.

Jonathan Taylor

Jonathan Taylor is currently valued as the RB7 according to KTC. The problem with that is he hasn’t finished higher than RB12 in fantasy points per game since his breakout season in 2021 (he finished as the RB1 overall that year). So far this season,

Taylor is the RB23 in fantasy points per game. A big reason why the production is down thus far is because he is not catching passes out of the backfield despite ranking No. 4 amongst running backs in Opportunity Share. So far, Taylor has caught just two passes.

I don’t see Anthony Richardson as a quarterback who will look to target running backs out of the backfield. As a result, Taylor deserves to be ranked a tier lower than he is currently, as he is currently dependent on breakaway runs and TDs to be effective for fantasy football.

Conclusion

When it comes to dynasty buys and sells, some of the best moves are often the hardest to make. Staying one step ahead of the competition is important, and sometimes that means making moves that others  disagree with. That’s okay. Different people have different opinions about player values.

And while it is true that not every trade will work out, if you win more than you lose, chances are your Dynasty team will be successful in the long run. Stay tuned for more advice, and feel free to DM me any questions you may have on twitter (see the handle at the bottom of the page). Until next time, happy trading, and best of luck to your dynasty teams this season!
