Fantasy Football Sleepers
Lesser-rostered players who can make an impact this week or later in the season. Whether you’re looking for a player to beat your league to on the waiver wire or someone to insert into your lineup this week, I’ve got you covered. Players to stream. Players to stash. Your Fantasy Football Sleepers for Week 8.
Quarterbacks
Drake Maye – New England Patriots (16-percent)
Drake Maye is somehow still widely available. Is this week’s matchup difficult (NY Jets)? Sure, but Maye’s fantasy production has been especially promising. I had him as a top-5 addition in my waiver wire column this week. He has thrown for five touchdowns over the past two games. In Week 6, he led New England in rushing yardage. Maye has finished as a top-10 QB in back-to-back weeks. He is a no-brainer addition for your fantasy team.
Russell Wilson – Pittsburgh Steelers (21-percent)
Russell Wilson finished with three touchdowns in his debut game as a Steeler. He took over for Justin Fields in a move criticized by many (okay, it was me) and immediately silenced them. Even against a strong Jets defense, Wilson was flawless, finishing as the QB3 overall for the week. In an odd scheduling twist, the Steelers face New York’s other team, the Giants, this week. Wilson is on the streaming radar with another strong performance.
Bo Nix – Denver Broncos (21-percent)
Nix is fourth among all QBs in rushing yards. He has two QB1 finishes over his last three games and currently ranks as the QB18 overall. The Denver Broncos are expected to dominate Carolina this weekend. Interestingly, Nix will face Bryce Young, last season’s No. 1 overall pick.
Marcus Mariota – Washington Commanders (1-percent)
If you like to set your lineups on Friday and then forget about them until Monday, this one isn’t for you. Jayden Daniels could play—or he could miss. There is a total lack of clarity coming out of Washington. If Daniels sits, Marcus Mariota would be a viable Superflex starter, even with a tough matchup. Chicago has been especially stingy against opposing QBs this season, but Mariota has a baked-in floor with his rushing ability (11 rush attempts last week against Carolina).
Running Backs
Ray Davis – Buffalo Bills (27-percent)
Ray Davis is trending up. He scored a garbage-time touchdown last week and outscored starting RB James Cook in the process. Cook also went without a target in the passing game for the first time this season. In Week 6, Davis stepped in for the injured Cook and produced 150-plus yards on 23 touches—the most by a Bills RB this season. He is a stash with desperation flex potential.
Justice Hill – Baltimore Ravens (25-plus)
Justice Hill has 21 catches this season, ranking 10th among all RBs. When game flow dictates, the Ravens heavily utilize him. Baltimore leads the NFL in yards per game, and we want access to this offense. If Derrick Henry were to miss time, Hill would become a major waiver wire target. Add him now.
Trey Benson – Arizona Cardinals (17%)
Trey Benson is a lottery ticket stash behind the productive but 29-year-old James Conner. A must-handcuff for Conner managers.
Roschon Johnson – Chicago Bears (14-percent)
A like-for-like replacement behind D’Andre Swift. If Swift misses time, Roschon Johnson would absorb his valuable passing-game work.
Kimani Vidal – LA Chargers (12-percent)
Kimani Vidal faces off against one of the easiest defenses for RBs—the New Orleans Saints. Over the past three games, the Saints allowed huge fantasy performances from Javonte Williams, Sean Tucker, Bucky Irving, and Kareem Hunt.
Vidal offers upside as a desperation flex/RB2 play due to the matchup. He also scored a touchdown on a wheel route in Week 6.
Tyler Goodson – Indianapolis Colts (11-percent)
Tyler Goodson was featured in this article last week. He scored a touchdown and finished with 51 rushing yards. He would be on the streaming radar if Jonathan Taylor missed another game. Even if Taylor plays, Goodson is worth stashing.
Keaton Mitchell – Baltimore Ravens (8-percent)
Keaton Mitchell could make his debut soon. He’s an ideal stash for managers looking for someone to place on IR, offering potential access to an elite offense.
Emanuel Wilson (7-percent) / Marshawn Lloyd (5-percent) – Green Bay Packers
Green Bay RB stashes. Emanuel Wilson is currently the handcuff to Josh Jacobs, while MarShawn Lloyd remains on IR.
Jaylen Wright – Miami Dolphins (7-percent)
The return of Tua Tagovailoa puts Jaylen Wright back on the stash radar. He has rushed for 32-plus yards in three straight games, including an 86-yard performance in Week 6.
D’Ernest Johnson – Jacksonville Jaguars (5-percent)
D’Ernest Johnson is a streaming option if Travis Etienne is unable to play. Last week, Tank Bigsby dominated the rushing yardage, but Johnson provided usable production with 70 total yards and three catches. This week’s tough matchup against Green Bay could favor more passing-game usage, which would benefit Johnson.
Kendre Miller – New Orleans Saints (5-percent)
Kendre Miller returned from IR and showed promise, finishing with 36 rushing yards on 6 carries and catching 2 passes. While Alvin Kamara remains entrenched in a large role, the Saints need more playmakers. Miller becoming a 10-touch-per-game player is within the range of outcomes.
Wide Receivers
Ricky Pearsall – San Francisco 49ers (31-percent)
San Francisco’s first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is stepping up after the season-ending loss of Brandon Aiyuk. Ricky Pearsall‘s role may expand further depending on Kyle Shanahan’s game plan. He was targeted five times last week and played over 75-percent of the offensive snaps.
Jalen Tolbert – Dallas Cowboys (21-percent)
Jalen Tolbert was dropped in several leagues after Dallas’ blowout loss. It was the second time in three games he failed to post double-digit PPR points. The Cowboys’ bye week may help them regroup, and this week’s matchup against San Francisco could become a high-scoring affair.
Tolbert has three games this season with double-digit PPR points.
Xavier Legette – Carolina Panthers (15-percent)
Xavier Legette will take on a prominent role with Diontae Johnson sidelined and Adam Thielen still not ready to return. With Bryce Young back under center, this offense should be downgraded, especially against Denver’s tough defense. Stash Legette to see if this opportunity sparks a breakout.
Cedric Tillman – Cleveland Browns (14-percent)
Cedric Tillman had a breakout game in Week 7’s loss to Cincinnati, catching eight of 12 targets. He filled in seamlessly for Amari Cooper, serving as the primary read on several plays. Tillman is worth streaming this week to see if his momentum carries over with Jameis Winston now leading the offense.
Sterling Shepard – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (12-percent)
Baker Mayfield‘s former college teammate isn’t the most exciting option, but he has a stronger track record than rookie Jalen McMillan or second-year receiver Trey Palmer. Sterling Shepard could benefit from a familiar connection with Mayfield.
Mike Williams – New York Jets (10-percent)
Mike Williams is a stash candidate who could be traded to a team with more opportunity. In the short-term, he may see increased usage with Allen Lazard dealing with injuries.
Troy Franklin – Denver Broncos (4-percent)
Troy Franklin is an intriguing stash candidate and could become a hot waiver wire target next week. He had a season-high six targets, catching five, in Denver’s Week 7 win over New Orleans.
As a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and former star at Oregon, Franklin is trending up, along with the Broncos.
Trey Palmer – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-percent)
Trey Palmer is a contrarian add this week as many managers are focused on Jalen McMillan. Palmer, a second-year player, scored three TDs as a rookie and should step into part of the vacated Mike Evans role.
Tim Patrick (1-percent)/Kalif Raymond (1-percent) – Detroit Lions
Tim Patrick and Kalif Raymond will see increased snaps with Jameson Williams serving a suspension. Raymond caught a 20-yard TD pass last week and has seven receptions for 112 yards over the past two games. Patrick hauled in three catches for 68 yards in Week 6.
Jacob Cowing – San Francisco 49ers (2%)
Jacob Cowing recorded 50 receiving yards in Week 7. A productive player in college at Arizona, the rookie was selected after Ricky Pearsall in the draft. He’s now a contrarian option in the Pearsall-Jauan Jennings debate for next-man-up status.
Tight Ends
Noah Fant – Seattle Seahawks (30-percent)
Noah Fant could see an uptick in usage with DK Metcalf set to miss this week’s game. Over the last six games, Fant has surpassed 60 receiving yards three times. He has zero TDs this season but could end that streak without Metcalf in the lineup.
Zach Ertz – Washington Commanders (29%)
Zach Ertz has recorded eight catches for 108 yards and a TD over the past two weeks. He’s a classic floor-play tight end, which can often be enough to get you through the week.
Taysom Hill – New Orleans Saints (29-percent)
Taysom Hill has not played since Week 4, but he could be fast-tracked back into action this week. The Saints are in a tailspin and face a solid Chargers defense. We might see an extra dose of designed runs for Hill. In his last game, he scored two TDs.
Will Dissly – Los Angeles Chargers (1-percent)
Will Dissly has drawn 16 targets over his past two games, including a career-high 11 in the Chargers’ Week 7 loss to Arizona.
With LA struggling for pass-catching options, Dissly has the least target competition of his career.
Ja’Tavion Sanders – Carolina Panthers (1-percent)
Ja’Tavion Sanders has performed well lately, with 13 targets and 11 receptions over the past two weeks. With Diontae Johnson out, Sanders could see additional targets this week.
Jonnu Smith – Miami Dolphins (6-percent)
Jonnu Smith is being seen as the odd man out with Tua Tagovailoa returning, but his recent uptick in production might earn him more designed plays going forward.
