Throughout the 2020 NFL Season, I will dig through the five best props each week on MKF. I will preview the coming week, and review the results from the past. Starting Week 1 off with a $200 budget, and a $5-10 target per prop.
Week 6 Review
Brutal week! Not only did the Miami vs New York game flop, The Jets were also the first team to get shut out in 2020. Going back to the well that was Chase Claypool vs the Browns worked, but JuJu Smith-Schuster and Jarvis Landry did not hold up their end of the bargain. Finally, in the early window, the absolute gimme of the year! Derrick Henry, Jonathan Taylor, and David Montgomery combined for just two touchdowns, both coming from Henry.
After dropping the ball and going 0 for 5, we sit at $270. Down on the week, but still $70 in the black on the season
Week 7
K.I.S.S … KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. After trying to get fancy with a terrible Jets-Dolphins game in Week 6, we will use this K.I.S.S approach going forward. Never did I think an elementary school quote would work in Props, but here we are. We’re sticking to the More/Less contests in Week 7, and taking advantage of clear usage patterns.
No. 1) Carolina @ New Orleans: More or Less
Prop: Alvin Kamara Over 6.5 Receptions, Robby Anderson Over 71.5 Yards.
Michael Thomas is out again in Week 7, this time with a hamstring injury. Carolina has given up 47 receptions to running backs through six weeks, a 7.8 per-game average and last in the league. With Thomas out over the last month, Alvin Kamara is the target and receptions leader in New Orleans by over 10. With three games over eight receptions, expect the Saints superstar to feast again.
Robby Anderson, not D.J. Moore, has been the WR1 in Carolina through the first six weeks. Anderson averages 94 yards per game, with three 100-yard outbursts. With Marshon Lattimore covering Moore, Anderson lines up with Patrick Robinson, the No. 92-ranked player on PlayerProfiler’s cornerback rankings.
No. 2) Cleveland @ Cincinnati: More or Less
Prop: Joe Burrow Over 241.5 Yards, Baker Mayfield Under 263.5 Yards.
A rematch from a Week 2 Thursday Night Football game that saw Joe Burrow finish with 61 attempts and 312 yards, in a 35-30 loss. Burrow has thrown for 300-plus in four of six games this year, finishing with 183 and 193 in the other two against stout pass defenses in Baltimore and Los Angeles. If this number was closer to 280, I might be pushed to go under, but not today.
This is easy, the Browns are playing a bottom-three run defense that saw three starters head to IR over the last two weeks. Baker Mayfield has not eclipsed 245 yards all year, let alone 263 with an injured Jarvis Landry and missing Austin Hooper. Take the under.
No. 3) Detroit @ Atlanta: More or Less
Prop: Matt Ryan Over 299.5 Yards, Matthew Stafford Over 296.5 Yards.
This contest has one of the highest game totals of the week, set at 56.5 points. Detroit looks to get back to .500 and start a streak after Kenny Golladay returned in Week 3 and D’Andre Swift broke out in Week 6. Matthew Stafford has yet to hit the 300-yard mark in 2020, but one of the most prolific passers of all-time draws Atlanta’s No. 31-ranked pass defense that allows 345 yards per game.
On the flip side, Matt Ryan had a full collection of healthy weapons on Sunday when he blew up for 371 yards, the most since the 450 he put up in Week 1. With Calvin Ridley and Julio Jones both healthy, expect Ryan to continue to pour it on opposing defenses and go shot for shot with Stafford.
No. 4) Tampa Bay @ Las Vegas: More or Less
Prop: Darren Waller Over 5.5 Receptions, Ronald Jones Over 75.5 Yards.
Ronald Jones has taken control of this Tampa Bay backfield over the last three weeks with Leonard Fournette sidelined by an injury. Jones finished with 100-plus yards on 5.5 yards per carry over the last three games, and Week 7 looks to be no different. Through six weeks, Las Vegas allows 4.8 (No. 25) yards per carry. Expect Tampa to take advantage of the Raiders’ COVID issues this week and get ahead early, resulting in more and more Jones.
Tampa has arguably the best cornerback duo in the NFL, and the Raiders’ best weapon that isn’t exclusively a deep threat is Darren Waller, who is coming off a much-needed bye week to recover from knee soreness. Expect the Raiders to lean on Waller, who has five-plus receptions in four of five games and leads Las Vegas in targets, receptions, and yards.
No. 5) The Podfather’s Prop of the Week – Seattle @ Arizona: More or Less
Prop: DeAndre Hopkins Over 7.5 Receptions, D.K. Metcalf Over 80.5 Yards.
D.K. Metcalf has eclipsed six targets, four receptions, and 90 Yards in all five games this season. While Dre Kirkpatrick is yet to give up a 10-point fantasy game in 2020, Patrick Peterson has had a hard time giving up less than 10, with speedsters Terry McLaurin and Robby Anderson going for 85-plus in Weeks 2 and 4.
In Weeks 1-4, DeAndre Hopkins had games with 14, eight, 10 and seven receptions. Over the last two weeks, Arizona has found themselves in extremely positive Game Scripts, beating New York and Dallas by 20-plus. In the blowout wins, Hopkins still garnered seven and eight targets, only catching six and two, respectively. Be ready in Week 7 for Hopkins to pick apart Seattle’s No. 32-ranked pass defense.
