Back again to break down my NFL Mock Draft 5.0, this time from a team-by-team viewpoint. After Mock Draft 4.0 came out in March, I started this series with the Jets, Giants, Lions, Eagles, Jaguars, Dolphins, Bills, and Patriots. Now with just 20 days left until the NFL Draft – I am on a quest to rip through the final 20 teams. Today features the Green Bay Packers. No. 22 – Jahan Dotson, WR – Penn State
The loss of Davante Adams has been discussed so much by now that I’d be beating a dead horse if I said anything more. The Packers need a receiver. With two first-round picks they have a lot of options on the table. Trade up for and grab the first receiver off the board, and their choice. Stand-pat and take what falls to them. Move back into round 2, where they have two more picks at No. 53 and No. 59.
In this scenario, I have the Packers staying at No. 22 and grabbing the senior speedster out of Penn State. Jahan Dotson finished with 2,757 receiving yards, 25 touchdowns, and over 300 return yards in four seasons. Generally, the Packers lean towards the bigger outside receivers. Think of Adams, Jordy Nelson, and James Jones. But they did select Greg Jennings in Round 2 at pick No. 52 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft. He was 5-11 and 198-pounds coming out of Western Michigan, running a 4.42 40-yard-dash. When I hear people berate this pick, it’s because he doesn’t “fit the Packers mold.” Coming in at 5-11 and 178-pounds and running a 4.43 40-yard-dash, I think he is the mold that they need to focus on. They have six other picks in the first four rounds. Grabbing a big body is still on the table.

No. 28 – Tyler Smith, OT – Tulsa
In years past it has been Isaiah Wilson, Kaleb McGary, Tytus Howard, and Ryan Ramczyk that were not mocked heavily in the latter part of round 1, but ended up there because of need and undervalued talent. Tyler Smith has been on a steady rise throughout the entire pre-draft process, an early declaration as an RS Sophomore, and a Freshman All-America Selection in 2020. Smith played every snap in 2020 after a redshirt season in 2019. Since arriving in Tulsa, he has added 20-pounds to his frame while still coming in with an 86th-percentile 40-yard-dash. Draft Tyler Smith, and plug him in at right tackle for the loss of Billy Turner.

No. 53 – George Pickens, WR – Georgia
George “Motha Freakin” Pickens. If you play any devy Fantasy Football, you remember the name. Pickens fits that mold of Davante Adams that all of the Packers fans are clamoring for. He dealt with injury at Georgia, tearing his ACL last spring causing him to miss most of the 2021 season. But he returned for the final stretch to make key plays for Georgia en route to a National Championship. He could’ve taken to the easy way out, knowing he was a potential first-round talent and just resting the knee to get healthy for the process. But he didn’t. He wanted to win.
Georgia Pickens burst onto the scene in 2019 as a true freshman with over 700 yards and 8 touchdowns, garnering him an 18.5 (96th-percentile) breakout age.

No. 59 – DeMarvin Leal, DL – Texas A&M
The interior defensive line depth for the Packers behind Jarran Reed, and Kenny Clark is…. non-existent. DeMarvin Leal had offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Florida State, LSU. All of them! He chose to go to Texas A&M and dominated to the point that he was projected as a top-10 pick entering 2021. Leal is just a value at this point in the draft, finishing with 25 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. If the packers can add him to this defensive line room, they will be very happy.
No. 92 – Drake Jackson, EDGE – USC
The Packers need to keep adding depth to this defensive line. After adding Leal at No. 59, they grab Drake Jackson at No. 92 after he was once discussed as a late first-round draft pick. Jackson finished with 25 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks in 3 seasons at USC. As I said, Green Bay needs the defensive line depth after finishing last in the NFL with just 52 tackles for loss in 2021. They lost Za’Darius Smith to the Vikings in free agency. Look for them to address the pass rush often in the 2022 NFL Draft.
USC defensive end/outside linebacker Drake Jackson has 13 visits over the next few weeks, per source. Jackson is about to hit, and stay on, the road.

No. 132 – Jelani Woods, TE – Virginia
Not a lot needs to be said for the super-freak at tight end. Jelani Woods was silent through the early stages of the draft process. At the NFL Combine, he was the dominant force from a physical and overpowering standpoint. Woods slates to come in and be a great addition to the receiving room next to Robert Tonyan and Josiah Deguara. He’s 6-7, 252-pounds, and has lower 90th-percentile athleticism across the board.

No. 140 – Kyren Williams, RB – Notre Dame
Kyren Williams was once thought of (a month ago) as a second-round pick with extreme fantasy upside. Now in early April, he’s slated to go in the late 4th round/early 5th round after putting up disgusting numbers at the NFL Combine and the Notre Dame Pro Day. He came in at 5-9 and 194-pounds. With a 4.65 40-yard-dash, 8th-percentile Speed Score and 21st-percentile Burst Score. Yuck! Best Comparable is James White. And I think that is a ceiling. But we aren’t here to take down Kyren Williams. We’re here to talk about the Green Bay Packers.
In 2021, the Packers selected Kylin Hill in the seventh round out of Mississippi State. Hill had great upside in 2021. But he went down with a gruesome knee injury early in the season. Aaron Jones is cuttable after the 2021 season and Hill is ailing. Look for Green Bay to add a pass-catching back to pair with A.J. Dillon for the next five years.
