Fast Draft Diaries: Free Agency Fallout
Welcome back to the latest edition of Fast Draft Diaries! This edition will cover the recent free agency transactions, their fallout, and how they will affect Flex 4 drafts. The Flex 4 draft limits the number of players to only 60, but the acquisitions made will prove to be important as the 2025 season unfolds. Let’s get started in New York, where two college teammates are reunited!
Garrett Wilson, WR, New York Jets
A new quarterback is distributing the ball, and it’s Justin Fields! Fields replaced Aaron Rodgers, and the Jets offseason offensive moves didn’t stop there, as they also moved on from Davante Adams. Once Fields was signed by the Jets, the comparisons to Wilson and D.J. Moore were made, where Moore had over 1300 receiving yards, finishing as the WR 9 in fantasy points per game. Is that season a possibility for Garrett Wilson? I believe it is, yes.
I would suggest that the top ten WR season appears to be the absolute ceiling, and for that reason, I wouldn’t draft him much higher than his current ADP of 32 (early 3rd round). But Wilson should once again reclaim his title as alpha receiver for the Jets. His talent is enough for me to keep drafting him in the late 2nd round or early 3rd round of Flex Four drafts.
Evan Engram, TE, Denver Broncos
Our long national nightmare has finally ended; Sean Payton finally found his joker. At least, that’s what we’ve been told. The Broncos’ leading tight end receiver last season was Lucas Krull (!) with only 19 receptions.
— Evan Engram (@eazyengram) March 13, 2025
In my last article, I talked about the value of a tight end in Fast Draft, and I mentioned that if Denver drafted Colston Loveland or Tyler Warren, they would be someone worth looking into in my drafts. And they went with the veteran Evan Engram. Engram is currently going undrafted in most drafts, but after writing the tight end article, I felt obliged to give my opinion on him. And I do think that he can make a splash this season; I do not believe he will finish as a top 3 tight end with a monster season.
Now I do see a future where he can stay healthy and finish in that 5-10 range of tight ends. He’s currently going undrafted in Flex Four, and I do not see that changing anytime soon. While he’s now in a wide-open passing game with only Courtland Sutton as the target commander, a top-five finish in his position feels like a big stretch.
Najee Harris, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
This one set off alarms in the dynasty space. Najee Harris, a very average running back in terms of fantasy point production, lands in a money spot with the Chargers. Currently going around the 58th pick in Flex 4, can he pay off that ADP price? It’s possible! Harris has yet to miss one game in his entire career due to injury.
His ability to stay on the field paired with Justin Herbert, and you can see why there is hype. While I’m excited for the situation he’s in, I do believe the Chargers will take a running back in this draft. I will be taking some Najee before the draft, but what the Chargers do in this draft will be important. If they take a running back in the first three rounds, I won’t be drafting much Najee, if any, in the Flex 4 format.
Davante Adams, WR, Los Angeles Rams
And we all thought the big wide receiver news with the Rams would be the transition of no Cooper Kupp! Instead, they get a second alpha receiver to pair with Puka Nacua. Davante Adams joined the Jets during the season and finished with over 100 targets, while also outscoring teammate Garrett Wilson in eight of the ten games they played together.
I love this pairing for many reasons. Firstly, the offense in LA relies heavily on receiver production. The tight ends and running backs are historically at the bottom of the NFL in target share. The only non-wide receiver to finish with more than 50 targets over the last four years in LA is Tyler Higbee.
Secondly, he’s got Matthew Stafford, who is capable of keeping two receivers inside the top 15. Adams has the floor of a WR2 and the potential to finish as a top-12 wide receiver. Before the acquisition, Adams was going late, in the 6th round. Now his ADP has jumped up nearly two rounds, and he can be had in the 4th. I’m comfortable taking him anytime after the middle to late 3rd. He’s my favorite player to add of all the free agents in this article.
