Brock Purdy Fantasy Outlook – Brock Purdy Is NOT The 2023 NFL MVP

This is Brock Purdy Fantasy Outlook – Brock Purdy is NOT the NFL MVP!

The struggles from quarterbacks like Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have opened up the MVP race for some other candidates. No QB has benefited from this more than 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy

Shaping up to be one of the biggest draft day steals in recent memory, Brock Purdy has not only had a very nice start to his NFL career, but he is already an MVP candidate!

Now is he playing good football? Yes, without a doubt he is a big factor of why the 49ers are currently sitting at the top of the NFC right now. However, there is absolutely NO WAY he would get my MVP vote this season. Here’s why:

Reason 1: He is Dependent on His Playmakers

What a shocker that this is going to be one of my arguments, I know. I plan to dive a little deeper on this topic than the 15-year-old on Twitter with Jalen Hurts has his profile picture claiming all Purdy does is throw bubble screens and drags. Is it a coincidence that the three games the 49ers lost this season were games where his biggest weapons and anchors on offense were injured?

Brock Purdy Advanced Stats & Metrics Profile

Deebo Samuel: OUT all three games

Trent Williams: OUT two of three games

Christian McCaffrey: Played with an oblique injury and saw some of his lowest rushing totals over those three weeks because of it.

All three of these losses came in three consecutive weeks.

And to top it all off, the 49ers lead the NFL in yards after contact per reception, fewest dropped passes, and they are No. 2 in rushing yards after contact. Is that because of Brock Purdy

Reason 2: How Many Other Quarterbacks Would Do the Same Thing in This Niners Offense?

I don’t know if you can be the most valuable player when you could probably replace Purdy with half of the other quarterbacks in the league and get the same results or better results. For example, in 16 games played in 2019, Jimmy Garoppolo had 3,978 passing yards and 27 passing TDs. Right now, Brock Purdy has played 13 games and had 3,553 passing yards and 25 passing TDs.

So yes, Purdy might finish with slightly more yards and more passing TDs, but it’s not like he blew those stats out of the water and proved he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Even the people who say he should win MVP don’t even think he’s a top 10 quarterback!

Reason 3: Dak Prescott is Your 2023 NFL MVP

Dak Prescott has 50 less passing yards, three more passing TDs, and one less interception with half of the talent on offense. Outside of CeeDee Lamb, every position group on offense favors the 49ers in terms of talent.  The Cowboys also have a similar record as the 49ers, but yet it’s Brock Purdy that is getting all of the hype. Even with the most recent dud against the Bills, Prescott has put up more with less.

I don’t even feel the need to dive any deeper because it feels like a pretty clear-cut decision, yet Brock Purdy is favored on almost every site. If you put Dak Prescott on the 49ers, contracts aside, the 49ers legitimately might only have one loss. So do yourselves a favor, go get a Dak Prescott MVP ticket because that’s who’s going to end up hosting the trophy!
