Throughout the 2020 NFL Season, I will dig through the five best props each week on MKF. I will preview the coming week, and review the results from the past. Starting Week 1 off with a $200 budget, and a $5-10 target per prop.
Week 8 Review
Tough injuries and slight losses. The current streak is not a hot one. Jonathan Taylor, Kenny Golladay and Jimmy Garoppolo all got hurt during Sunday’s games, resulting in losses in two props. In Cincinnati, Tyler Boyd missed the over by two yards. Heartbreaking!
Finishing 0-of-5 on Sunday dropped our season total by $25, we currently sit at $240.
Week 9
In Week 9, Christian McCaffrey is back for Carolina, and that means it’s time to dabble back in the Touchdown Dance. Michael Thomas is back in New Orleans as well for the first time since Week 1 against Tampa Bay where he finished with three receptions and 17 yards against Carlton Davis.
No. 1) Early Afternoon: Touchdown Dance
Prop: Dalvin Cook, Christian McCaffrey, and D’Andre Swift over 3.5 Touchdowns.
Christian McCaffrey returns for the first time since Week 2, coming off of back-to-back two-score games. In Week 9, he draws a Kansas City Chiefs defense that ranks No. 29 against the run. While McCaffrey was away, Curtis Samuel and Mike Davis combined for seven touchdowns as replacement options.
Minnesota vs Detroit gives us a nice Touchdown Dance that can be used in a single game or superstar format paired with McCaffrey. Coming off of a career day in Green Bay with four touchdowns, Dalvin Cook draws a Lions Defense that ranks No. 31 in touchdowns allowed to running backs. D’Andre Swift’s Snap Share has increased an average of 15-percent over the last three weeks, and he’s scored four touchdowns over his last four games.
No. 2) Seattle @ Buffalo: More or Less
Prop: Tyler Lockett Over 70.5 yards, Cole Beasley Over 50.5 yards.
Since Week 3, Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf have shared nuclear powers trading week-by-week. In 2020, Lockett has four games over seven receptions and 65 yards, while finishing three games with under 50 yards. In Week 9, he draws PlayerProfiler’s No. 101-ranked cornerback in Taron Johnson, who has given up 70 yards three times in primary coverage so far this year. With Russell Wilson eclipsing 340 Air Yards in four of the last five games, he is cooking and Lockett is teed up for a great weekend.
Lockett’s slot counterpart on Sunday is Cole Beasley, who has surpassed 45 yards in six of eight games, while commanding six-plus targets in those contests. It’s Beasley, not John Brown, playing the No. 2 role behind Stefon Diggs. This Seattle defense is ranked No. 32 against wide receivers in yards allowed and is playing without starters Shaquill Griffin and Ugo Amadi on Sunday.
No. 3) New Orleans @ Tampa Bay: More or Less
Prop: Tom Brady over 295.5 yards, Michael Thomas under 77.5 yards.
Michael Thomas returns for the first time since Week 1, when he finished with a 3-17 stat line against Carlton Davis. In Week 9, Thomas draw Davis’ coverage again while coming off ankle and hamstring injuries. He’s likely to be a decoy in Tampa, aligning for an Emmanuel Sanders and Jared Cook-focused game.
Since Tom Brady’s Week 1 debut against New Orleans, he has averaged 297 yards in five two-scores games. The addition of Antonio Brown should elevate this offense. When Brown played in New England, it relegated Julian Edelman‘s role by 66-percent. Look for him to command a viable Target Share.
No. 4) Pittsburgh @ Dallas: More or Less
Prop: Ben Roethlisberger over 264.5 yards, James Conner over 79.5 yards, Chase Claypool 57.5 yards, JuJu Smith-Schuster over 4.5 receptions, and Garrett Gilbert under 185.5 yards.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 6-0 and rolling, while Ben Roethlisberger has thrown for over 260 yards just twice this season. Dallas’ top cornerbacks are currently ranked No. 60 and No. 70 overall in PlayerProfiler’s cornerback rankings, with the team ranked No. 22 in receiving yards allowed. James Conner has finished with over 100 total yards in four of six games and has logged 498 (No. 10) rushing yards.
Garrett Gilbert, the ex-Orlando Apollos AAF League Champion, is set to take over the reins in Dallas. While Gilbert threw for over 240 yards in five of eight AAF games, this is the NFL and this is Pittsburgh’s No. 1-ranked overall defense. He has a tall task on Sunday. Hitting a 185.5 yardage total is a tough ask against a vaunted Steelers defense.
No. 5) The Podfather’s Prop of the Week – Seattle @ Buffalo: Go Long
Prop: Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf, and Stefon Diggs Over 296.5 yards.
The Podfather’s Prop of the Week was broken down on Friday night during the Prop Cast Happy Hour. Catch it every Friday at 5 pm ET.
With Josh Norman out and Taron Johnson ranked No. 101 in PlayerProfiler’s cornerback rankings. Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf look to continue a strong season as the best teammates at wide receiver in 2020 from a statistical standpoint.
