Market Shifts
With free agency in full swing and the NFL Draft looming, NFL rosters are shifting and teams are getting pieces in place for the coming season. As big-name free agents are signed, team needs become clear going into the Draft. It’s a perfect time to evaluate dynasty fantasy football rosters, and make moves to shape championship rosters for the season(s) to come. NFL roster moves create changes in perception of player value, promoting a dynamic dynasty trade market. Below, we take a look at some quarterbacks and running backs who have lost value in the dynasty fantasy football marketplace and are perfect buy-low candidates this 2025 offseason.
Quarterback Trade Targets in Dynasty
Anthony Richardson | Indianapolis Colts
Anthony Richardson is the definition of a volatile asset in dynasty. Coming off two up-and-down seasons where his availability has been limited due to injury and he has struggled to competently captain an NFL offense, Richardson could go either way. He has high-upside potential, but if he does not continue to improve in his ability to lead the team under center, he could also be benched and replaced. The Colts added Daniel Jones in free agency, representing legitimate competition for the starter position.
If you have the stomach, you could trade a lower-upside but more stable QB option like Bryce Young for Richardson. Or try trading Kyler Murray for A-Rich and get a significant piece on top. Due to the instability of his value in dynasty, Richardson is also potentially a quarterback you could get without offering a QB in return. Offer a decent wide receiver and running back to a manager looking to cash out on the third-year Colts QB.
J.J. McCarthy | Minnesota Vikings
J.J. McCarthy is still unknown as an NFL QB, but he is in position to be one of the biggest risers of the coming season in dynasty superflex. Sam Darnold is off to Seattle after having a career year in 2024, throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns. He had never thrown more than 19 touchdown passes in a season until 2024.
Kevin O’Connell’s offense appears to be a supportive environment for NFL QBs and McCarthy is their QB of the future. McCarthy will be the beneficiary of an offense that buoyed Darnold and even Joshua Dobbs. The Vikings receiver corps is led by the best receiver in the game, Justin Jefferson, and is a top-five overall unit.
Dak Prescott | Dallas Cowboys
If you are looking for an older, less sexy option to fill out your superflex spot, look no further than Dak Prescott. Prescott has never had a sheen in dynasty. He is currently QB22 on Keep Trade Cut, but will finish as a top-12 QB in scoring when healthy. The 31-year-old is coming off a 2024 season in which he was injured, but also underperformed, as the Cowboys had a weak offensive attack.
The general consensus is that the Cowboys’ personnel decisions are suspect. Dallas is sure to add offensive firepower in the coming NFL Draft, however. Prescott is a tier-down candidate if you are ready to sell a more sought-after player like Drake Maye or Bo Nix. Get a playable asset on top of Dak.
Running Back Trade Targets in Dynasty
Chuba Hubbard | Carolina Panthers
Chuba Hubbard is the most obvious buy low running back in dynasty right now. The Panthers just signed free agent Rico Dowdle. Remember, though, Hubbard signed a four-year, $33.2 Million contract extension in November last year. That was before Jonathon Brooks came back and played in Weeks 12-14. The rookie from Texas was then injured and went out for the rest of the 2024 season and will be sidelined the whole 2025 season.
Hubbard is capable of bell cow usage. He averaged 16.7 carries and 3.6 targets per game in 15 games in 2024. The Panthers will be in year two of Dave Canales making the Panthers offense viable and it looks like Hubbard is their feature back. The Oklahoma State product is currently RB18 on KTC and RB21 in the PlayerProfiler Dynasty Rankings.
J.K. Dobbins | Free Agent
J.K. Dobbins is still on the free agent market. He finally had a mostly healthy season in 2024, and earned himself another contract after playing on a one-year deal with the Chargers in 2024. His trademark explosivity was not fully back after ACL recovery in 2022 and an Achilles tear in 2023, but he still managed to record 10 Breakaway Runs (No. 15) on the 2024 season.
Dobbins was also No. 7 in the league with an 110.9 (No. 7) Explosive Rating. The 26-year-old carried the ball 15 times per game and drew 2.9 targets. Apparently, Dobbins is not a hot name on the free agent market, but he has potential to do some damage another year without serious injury.
Christian McCaffrey | San Francisco 49ers
One or two good years of Christian McCaffrey, even at 80-percent of his previous production is enough to warrant his price in dynasty currently. If you can get CMC for a first, it would be more than worth it if you are in a contending window. This offseason the buying window is open while rebuilding managers try to divorce themselves from the 28-year-old injury-prone back. The eight-year veteran played only three full games in the 2024 season, but played 80-percent or more snaps in each full game. If he is healthy, Kyle Shanahan is going to use the premier back in the league over the last several seasons.
