Dynasty Ups and Downs – Week 4

by Seth Diewold · Dynasty Leagues

Football is back, and so is the weekly column, Dynasty Ups and Downs. Each week, I will present players to buy and sell (dynasty trades to make) based on their evaluation in the Dynasty marketplace. As we all know, Dynasty fantasy football is an ever-changing landscape, and the best way to succeed is to stay one step ahead of the competition. This article aims to do just that.

Below, Seth Diewold gives guidance on dynasty trades to make – identifying players who are buys and sells in dynasty.

A Note on Week 3

Rome Odunze had a breakout game, but I suspect he can still be had in a trade. Jonathan Taylor had a two touchdown game, which should raise his price even more. I still recommend selling Taylor at his current price in Dynasty. The tight ends continue to struggle, so there is still time to acquire them!

Dynasty Buys

Bryce Young

2024 has been the year of the comeback at the quarterback position. Justin Fields, Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr, Geno Smith, Andy Dalton, and Sam Darnold are all contributing in a meaningful way both in fantasy and for their NFL team. Bryce Young was taken No. 1 overall in 2023. The problem is that he was selected by the Carolina Panthers who had a terrible offensive line and no weapons for him to work with in Year 1.

Young needs a new home, and I think it is just a matter of time before he gets one. He may be a backup for a year, maybe two. That’s fine. The trade window for Bryce Young is going to be open for quite some time. But I would bet, with the state of quarterback play in the NFL, that Young gets another chance to start somewhere. I’m looking to add Bryce Young to all my Dynasty teams before that happens.

Diontae Johnson

Johnson was the beneficiary of Andy Dalton taking over for Bryce Young at quarterback. Against the Las Vegas Raiders, in a positive game script, Johnson saw 14 targets, eight receptions for 122 yards, and one TD. I can’t imagine what a negative game script would look like for the Panthers top wideout. Throw in the fact that Adam Thielen is expected to miss some time with a hamstring injury, and Johnson could be looking at a 25-30-percent weekly target share.

Jake Ferguson

Dak Prescott loves to target the tight end. In Jake Ferguson‘s last two games since missing time with an injury, he’s earned 11 targets against Baltimore in Week 3 and seven targets against the Giants on Thursday Night Football. It may not be a sexy move, but in a landscape where we aren’t sure what is going on with tight ends, we at least know what we are going to get from Ferguson each week. He’s also just 25 years old. Ferguson is one of my favorite targets in dynasty trades.

Dynasty Sells

Davante Adams

Davante Adams picked up an injury and will miss Week 4. The Raiders appear to be going nowhere fast, so if you roster Adams on your Dynasty team, this is tricky. The best play is to hold through the injury to see what the next couple of weeks have in store.

There is every possibility that the Raiders trade Adams, and when that happens (assuming he is traded somewhere that has some fantasy appeal), it will be time to trade Adams away.

Rachaad White

It sure looks like Bucky Irving is a better version of Rachaad White. Irving is averaging 6.2 yards per carry while White is averaging 2.1 yards per carry through three games. Irving ranks No. 5 amongst running backs in true yards per carry (5.6) while White ranks No. 62 in that same category (2.1). White is still seeing the majority of the snaps and the bulk of the receiving work. However, if there is someone looking to buy low on Rachaad White, I’m inclined to cut my losses.

Zach Charbonnet

Charbonnet has been a fantastic fantasy running back thus far. In fact, in back-to-back weeks, Charbonnet has finished as a top 8 RB in fantasy points per game. The issue is that he will not be the starter when Kenneth Walker comes back from his injury. Kenneth Walker was limited again at practice yesterday, so there is no indication yet if he will play this week or not, and Charbonnet’s snap share was around 30-percent with Kenneth Walker healthy. Charbonnet is now the RB 23 in Keep Trade Cut’s Dynasty Superflex rankings.  At that price, Charbonnet is one of my top sells in dynasty trades.

Conclusion

When it comes to dynasty buys and sells, some of the best moves are often the hardest to make. Staying one step ahead of the competition is important, and sometimes that means making moves that others will disagree with. That’s okay. Different people have different opinions about player values.

And while it is true that not every trade will work out, if you win more than you lose, chances are your Dynasty team will be successful in the long run. Stay tuned for more advice, and feel free to DM me any questions you may have on twitter (see the handle at the bottom of the page). Until next time, happy trading, and best of luck to your dynasty teams this season!
