This is Dynasty Ups and Downs. Each week, I will present players to buy and sell (Dynasty trades to make) based on their evaluation in the Dynasty marketplace. As we all know, Dynasty fantasy football is an ever-changing landscape, and the best way to succeed is to stay one step ahead of the competition. This article aims to do just that.
PlayerProfiler is home to award winning dynasty rankings and tools. Below, Seth Diewold gives guidance on dynasty trades to make – identifying players who are buys and sells in dynasty.
Dynasty Buys
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. has gotten elite usage over the past two weeks, and it looks like the lead RB job in New York is his. In Week 8, Tracy Jr. saw 20 carries, three targets, two receptions for 150 yards and one TD. This past week was less successful, but the usage was still there: 16 carries, one target, one catch, 69 total yards (zero TDs).
He also has a nice playoff schedule down the stretch.
vs Saints – Week 14
vs Ravens – Week 15
@ Falcons – Week 16
vs Colts – Week 17
Josh Downs
Josh Downs has had back-to-back weeks with nine targets and has led the team in targets over those two weeks. His Target Share ranks No. 11 amongst wide receivers, and I don’t see that changing soon.
The playoff schedule is a little rough at first, but gets a little easier in the semi-final and championship weeks:
BYE – Week 14
@ Broncos – Week 15
vs Titans – Week 16
@ Giants – Week 17
James Conner
Can you put a price tag on reliability? If so, you should trade for James Conner in fantasy football. Over the past three weeks, Conner has delivered at least 14.9 fantasy points and played on over 80-percent of the snaps. Conner ranks No. 10 in Opportunity Share amongst running backs and No. 22 in targets. He also ranks No. 5 in Red Zone Touches amongst RBs.
Also, his playoff schedule is delicious:
vs Seahawks – Week 14
vs Patriots – Week 15
@ Panthers – Week 16
@ Rams – Week 17
Evan Engram
The results have been mixed for Evan Engram so far in 2024. But he has finished with over 11.5 fantasy points in three of the five weeks he has played, Christian Kirk is on injured reserve, Brian Thomas Jr. is banged up, and the Jags are likely going to be playing catchup in many of their remaining games.
Also, Engram ranks No. 4 amongst tight ends in Target Share, and I only foresee more targets headed his way.
I also don’t mind their fantasy playoff schedule:
@ Titans – Week 14
vs Jets – Week 15
@ Raiders – Week 16
@ Titans – Week 17
Dynasty Sells
Rico Dowdle
Dak Prescott is going to be out for a little while with a hamstring, and the Cowboys offense is not going to be as effective as it once was. Looking beyond this season, Rico Dowdle is one of those players most likely to get replaced as the Cowboys could talk themselves into an upgrade either in free agency, or the more likely option: the NFL Draft. Either way, I’m not sure Dowdle does much for win now teams, and I’m not sure his value is going to get any higher. He’s a sell for me in all scenarios.
Travis Etienne
I’m willing to sell low on Travis Etienne. For starters, he’s 25, going on 26 years old. He’s not getting the opportunities in the Jaguars’ offense that we are used to seeing as he ranks No. 30 amongst running backs in Opportunity Share.
The emergence of Tank Bigsby and injuries are partially to blame for this, but I would also argue that Etienne isn’t making the most of his opportunities. Etienne is coming off a game in which he played on just 32.1-percent of snaps. I don’t foresee his situation getting better anytime soon.
George Pickens
George Pickens has been in the league for two and a half seasons. In that time, he has averaged 11.2 fantasy points per game, which, depending on the year, would make around the WR40 in fantasy football. In Dynasty, he is still ranked as the WR20. If I can use that perceived value to upgrade my win now roster, I’m doing it. If I can send Pickens to a win now team for some rookie picks, I’m doing it. Currently, Keep Trade Cut’s rankings suggest Pickens is worth a late 2025 1st round rookie pick plus something extra.
Conclusion
When it comes to dynasty buys and sells, some of the best moves are often the hardest to make. Staying one step ahead of the competition is important, and sometimes that means making moves that others will disagree with. That’s okay. Different people have different opinions about player values.
And while it is true that not every trade will work out, if you win more than you lose, chances are your Dynasty team will be successful in the long run. Stay tuned for more advice, and feel free to DM me any questions you may have on twitter (see the handle at the bottom of the page). Until next time, happy trading, and best of luck to your dynasty teams this season!
