Below, Bradley Stalder breaks down premium fantasy football flex plays for fantasy Week 10.
In this weekly flex plays article, I identify three players outside the top 50 projected FLEX starters who will “win” the FLEX. How do I define “winning” the FLEX position? If a player earns at least 12.5 points in half-point PPR scoring, that’s a “win.” Anything less is a loss. I also identify one player outside the top-100 in projected points for the week as my long-shot, double-or-nothing score. Throughout the season, I’ll offer players I think will “win” the FLEX each week, and update how I did last week as accountability.
Week 9 Record: 0-3
Running Records 14-17 , 45-percent
Cade Otton | TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Cade Otton is rostered on 33-percent of teams, but only projected to start on six-percent. He projects as the 53rd-highest FLEX player in Week 10. Since Chris Godwin (ACL) and Mike Evans (Hamstring) have missed games over the last three weeks, Otton has finished as a top-five tight end each week. Otton has earned at least 10 targets and eight receptions during that span. Evans isn’t expected to return until Week 12, leaving Otton as the main trusted receiving option for Baker Mayfield. Otton leads all tight ends in Snap Share, and ranks No. 2 in Red Zone Targets, No. 4 in receptions, No. 6 in receiving yards, and currently ranks as the No. 5 ppg tight end on the season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the San Francisco 49ers in the second-highest projected game total of the season. The 49ers allow the No. 6 most receptions to receivers. As long as Evans and Godwin remain out, Otton will remain king.
DeAndre Hopkins | WR, Kansas City Chiefs
DeAndre Hopkins is rostered on 82-percent of teams and projected to start on 18-percent. He projects as the 51st-highest FLEX player for Week 10. Hopkins proved he was both healthy and ready to be integrated into the Kansas City Chiefs offense. Remember, Hopkins was dealing with an MCL injury that nearly cost him the start of the season. Instead, Hopkins was limited to fewer than 50-percent during his first four games. Hopkins played 60-percent of snaps in his second game with the Chiefs, where he earned nine targets and caught eight passes for 86 yards and two TDs. Expect Hopkins will continue to ramp up with Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown out for the season.
The Chiefs host the Denver Broncos, a game with a 41.5 total points projection. While the Broncos secondary has held wide receivers to the No. 2-fewest fantasy points on the season, Hopkins played 46-percent of snaps in the slot – avoiding shadow coverage from Patrick Surtain. Fire up Hopkins.
Tank Dell | WR, Houston Texans
Tank Dell is rostered on 97-percent of teams, and projected to start on 80-percent of them. The second-year wide receiver projects as the 60th-highest FLEX player for Week 10. Dell was CJ Stroud‘s go-to guy in Week 9 against the New York Jets, where he torched one of the best secondaries in the NFL. He caught six of his nine targets for 126 yards. Dell has showed signs of picking up, playing over 70-percent of snaps each of the last four weeks. Two of those weeks, Dell earned nine targets and scored touchdowns. Dell ranks No. 16 in Red Zone Targets and No. 13 in fantasy points per target vs. man coverage. With Stefon Diggs out for the season with a torn ACL, Dell’s production should ramp up.
The Detroit Lions travel to Houston for Sunday Night Football in what is projected among the highest game totals at 49 points. The Detroit Lions allow the No. 3-most fantasy points to wide receivers on the season. Expect Dell to continue to get hyper-targeted, especially if Nico Collins remains out.
Deep Cut: Taysom Hill | TE, New Orleans Saints
Taysom Hill is rostered on 49-percent of teams and projected to start on 10-percent. Hill projects as the 106th-highest FLEX player for Week 10, per Sleeper. The calculus for Hill to succeed is simple: there’s not many other options for the Saints moving forward. Rashid Shaheed is on IR. Chris Olave suffered his third concussion this season. Kendre Miller and Bub Means are also on IR. Hill handled his most touches for the season in Week 9.
Hill has two of five games this season exceeding 14 fantasy points. Atlanta should push the Saints to utilize Hill to keep up with the Falcons offense in a respectable projected 46 point game total. He should be a top-5 TE in Week 10.
