Gus Edwards and Other Week 12 Waiver Wire Targets

by Christopher Buonagura · Waiver Wire

Week 11 of the NFL season presented significant injury to the one position that helps nobody in fantasy football, the quarterback. The loss of Joe Burrow and the banged up Bears quarterbacks have cause wide receiver value to take a significant hit. As always, PlayerProfiler is here with our advanced stats and metrics to help find gold during a rather thin week on the waiver wire.

Running Backs

No. 1) Gus Edwards, Ravens

Rostered: 30% (Per Yahoo Fantasy)
Week 12 Matchup: Steelers

Gus Edwards is the next man up for Baltimore going into a Primetime Thanksgiving matchup. Both J.K. Dobbins and Mark Ingram will sit due to COVID regulations.

Gus Edwards Advanced Stats & Metrics Profile

Edwards has a high chance of being a one week workhorse on the short week with few options behind him and Justice Hill being relegated to special teams.

No. 2) Boston Scott, Eagles

Rostered: 29%
Week 12 Matchup: Seahawks

The COVID situation in Baltimore exemplifies why we need to be stashing high-upside backup RBs this late in the season. Miles Sanders doesn’t have COVID, but it’s hard to say that he’s outperformed Boston Scott over the last two weeks since his return from injury.

The Eagles refusing to utilize him in the second half against the Browns last week didn’t help, but Sanders has underwhelmed relative to Scott and his limited usage. He’s performed well enough recently both with and without Sanders to warrant stashing.

No. 3) Devontae Booker, Raiders

Rostered: 10%
Week 12 Matchup: Falcons

Before being held in check against the Chiefs this past week, Devontae Booker had already worked his way into weekly Flex contention.

Though he’s had the top Run Blocking Efficiency rating among qualified RBs entering Week 11, it’s hard to further ignore Booker’s league-leading or near-league-leading marks in True Yards per Carry, Breakaway Run Rate, Yards per Touch, Yards Created per Touch and Production Premium. Get him stashed now.

No. 4) Brian Hill, Falcons

Rostered: 7%
Week 12 Matchup: Raiders

Brian Hill is operating as both a satellite and breather back in Atlanta. He has been a more efficient runner and receiver than Todd Gurley this season. He would be an immediate RB2 option in the event of a Gurley injury, who has ironically been the healthiest running back in the league thus far.” – The Podfather

No. 5) Frank Gore, Jets

Rostered: 10%
Week 12 Matchup: Dolphins

Frank Gore is eternal. The loss of Lamical Perine to the dreaded high ankle sprain is all Adam Gase needed to return Gore to a featured role. The offense has picked up some traction and Ty Johnson is unlikely to take over a major role. Temper expectations as Gore has provided minimal fantasy value with adequate volume this season. He is a touchdown dependent flex.

No. 6) Cordarrelle Patterson, Bears

Rostered: 7%
Week 12 Matchup: Packers

Cordarrelle Patterson is an intriguing upside stash. Multiple quarterback injuries and David Montgomery‘s eventual return present multiple roadblocks for Patterson. He may find his way to your bench with the hope that the Bears continue to feature him after a big Week 10 showing.

Devonta Freeman, Giants (29%)

Wide Receivers

No. 1A) Jalen Reagor, Eagles

Rostered: 29%
Week 12 Matchup: Seahawks

How in God’s name is Jalen Reagor still at under 30-percent ownership on Yahoo with a Week 12 matchup against Seattle’s swiss cheese secondary on tap? We as a fantasy community need to help fix this imminently.

No. 1B) Nelson Agholor, Raiders

Rostered: 20%
Week 12 Matchup: Falcons

Nelson Agholor is the WR1 for Derek Carr. It feels wrong to say that, but it has become the truth. In his first season with the Raiders, he has scored six total touchdowns and is averaging 19.3 Yards Per Reception.

Check out Nelson Agholor on PlayerProfiler’s New DYNASTY DELUXE Rankings:

Agholor is the epitome of a boom or bust receiver, but you can toss him in your Flex and pray for the boom if you are desperate.

No. 2) Tim Patrick, Broncos

Rostered: 21%
Week 12 Matchup: Saints

Tim Patrick is climbing the seasonal rankings with multiple high volume weeks. His Snap Share is hitting 80-percent most weeks when healthy, and 23 targets over three weeks tough to overlook. Drew Lock is heaving the ball downfield in Ryan Fitzpatrick-like fashion and Patrick is the primary beneficiary.

No. 3) Denzel Mims, Jets

Rostered: 5%
Week 12 Matchup: Dolphins

Denzel Mims continued to be utilized in the underwhelming Jets offense. He has drawn 26 targets in four weeks since returning from injury, and with 17.7 Yards per Reception, his targets are of the downfield variety.

Mims can be a WR2 on any given week if he finds the end zone, but that is a tall task on this team. Sam Darnold‘s eventual return further brings the upside into question since the game plan may change from the past few weeks with Joe Flacco at the helm.

No. 4) Damiere Byrd, Patriots

Rostered: 2%
Week 12 Matchup: Cardinals

After weeks of tantalizing us with high Snap Share and Air Yards numbers, Damiere Byrd finally delivered a boom week as Cody Carpentier rejoices somewhere.

While it will be hard to trust such a volatile player on a weekly basis, Byrd can provide late-season Flex value in the right matchups. Arizona’s defense is much improved, but this week’s game still has shootout potential with a projected total near 50 points. Jakobi Meyers is a safer bet for more consistent production (his Week 11 dud notwithstanding), but Byrd deserves stash consideration.
