We’ve reached a tipping point in the NFL season. Week 10 is over, and the real contenders are separating themselves from teams who are out of the running and setting their eyes on future seasons. Injuries have ravaged NFL teams and fantasy teams alike, and there are still some rookies coming into the opportunities afforded them by the mid-season chaos. Let’s take a look at the best rookie performances from Week 10 of NFL action.
Rookie Performance of the Week
Tyrone Tracy Jr. | RB, New York Giants
18-103-1 rushing, 1/2-1 receiving
Tyrone Tracy Jr. lost a fumble that led to the Giants losing the Berlin game in overtime, but this is fantasy football, and Tracy has been one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise dreary Giants offense.
Tracy had yet another efficient day rushing, averaging 5.72 yards per rush and rumbling to his third 100-yard rushing performance out of the seven games since he started seeing the majority of the snaps. Tracy looks like he was born to be a running back even though he’s only been playing the position for less than two full seasons.
Other Notable Rookie Performances
Marvin Harrison Jr. | WR, Arizona Cardinals
5/5-64-1 receiving
Kyler Murray was dicing up the Jets’ defense Sunday and, while Marvin Harrison Jr. is not compiling big yardage or target numbers, he appears to be Murray’s go-to guy for big plays and in the red zone. The two hooked up for another touchdown on a fade route in the second quarter, their sixth of the year.
Trey Benson | RB, Arizona Cardinals
10-62 rushing, 2/2-25 receiving
James Conner continues to own the lion’s share of Arizona’s backfield work, but Trey Benson is coming on strong. The rookie is also making an impression with the opportunities he gets. He had his first double-digit carry and multi-target game Sunday. The Florida State product was efficient with 6.2 yards per carry and 12.5 yards per reception.
Adonai Mitchell | WR, Indianapolis Colts
6/6-71 receiving
Adonai Mitchell caught all six of his targets from Joe Flacco Sunday for nearly twice his previous single-game high yardage total. Mitchell creates separation with ease. With a better quarterback and without so much depth chart competition (Michael Pittman was out Sunday), Mitchell could be a standout receiver.
Ricky Pearsall | WR, San Francisco 49ers
4/6-73-1 receiving
With Brandon Aiyuk out, it looks like the 49ers have a rookie in Ricky Pearsall who can fill in and produce alongside Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings.
Pearsall scored a touchdown on a deep crosser which he caught and ran for 46 yards in the first quarter.
Bo Nix | QB, Denver Broncos
22/30-215-2 passing
Bo Nix did not look fazed playing a tough Chiefs defense on the road. He did not have a huge day rushing or passing, but he had the Broncos one blocked 35-yard field goal away from a W at Arrowhead. Nix has multiple (two or three) passing touchdowns in four of his last six games after recording just one passing TD his first four games.
Bucky Irving | RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
13-73-1 rushing, 3/3-14 receiving
Bucky Irving is the Bucs’ preferred back to use on the ground, out-carrying Rachaad White for three straight games. Irving is not just a grinder, however. He gets work in the passing game. That gives him a valuable role in one of the most productive offenses in the NFL this season.
Audric Estime | RB, Denver Broncos
14-53 rushing
Audric Estime did not have an overly impressive performance Sunday, but he makes the notable list because he basically took over all the backfield work Sunday. That was after Sean Payton said more than once he would like to get the rookie more involved.
The Notre Dame product carried the ball 14 times while the previous lead back, Javonte Williams, carried it only once. (Jaleel McLaughlin had two carries.) It’s possible we’re looking at a new lead back in Denver.
Other Key Usage Notes
Jermaine Burton | WR, Cincinnati Bengals – 31 routes (highest on the season), 1/5-11
Malachi Corley | WR, New York Jets – 12 routes (highest on the season), 1/2-2
Braelon Allen | RB, New York Jets – 7-27 rushing, 1/1-7 receiving
Ja’Tavion Sanders | TE, Carolina Panthers – 23 routes (third-most routes on the team), 2/2-8-1, two red zone targets – one was a TD, the other he went down on the one-yard line
Theo Johnson | TE, New York Giants – 31 routes (third-most on team), 4/6-37
Devaughn Vele | WR, Denver Broncox – 26 routes (second-most on team), 4/4-39
Jalen Coker | WR, Carolina Panthers – 24 routes (second-most on team), 3/8-41
