Another week has gone by. Incredibly, the NFL season is almost over. My, how the time flies by so fast. Speaking of fast, it’s time once again to shine the light of truth on all 32 NFL offenses as we look at how many plays per minute each team is snapping off. Yes, dear readers, it’s time for the Pace of Play Report Week 14.

What’s Changed?
Welcome inside the top ten Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks currently rank No. 10, their highest mark of the season, and up three places from a week ago. The Seahawks have lost three of their last four games and during that span, in addition to playing faster, they are also passing more. They boast a neutral pass rate of 69-percent in this span. They are a team where the fantasy production is fairly concentrated, so if they continue to go as they are at present, it’s good news for Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf. But probably no one else.
The team who handed the Seahawks their latest loss, the Carolina Panthers, continues to get slower on offense. This is who they want to be, clearly, as they are on a decent run of form at present with three wins in four games. Over the last five weeks (the Panthers had a Week 13 bye), they have fallen from No. 14 in the pace of play all the way to No. 24. This run has seen D’Onta Foreman average 10.3 PPR points per game while D.J. Moore is down to 8.3. It breaks the heart. It really does. Moore’s season has been pretty close to being a complete waste of everyone’s time.
The Week Ahead
The most eye-catching game this week, from a pace-of-play standpoint, is the clash between the New York Jets (No. 5) and the Detroit Lions (No. 7). The Lions’ pass defense is one of the most porous in football, so assuming his ribs are up to it we should see plenty of passes from Mike White to Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, and maybe even Tyler Conklin this week. The Lions’ pass rate when trailing is a pleasing 65-percent, so even though the Jets’ defense has some serious teeth Jared Goff could be in play as a volume-based streaming option. But with Sauce Gardner around, it’s hard to get too excited about any of the Lions’ perimeter receivers.
When it comes to a game where every last second should be used on the play clock, look no further than the David Tepper Bowl. The Panthers (No. 24) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 29) is a game featuring two teams who want to play slow, establish the run, and produce as few fantasy-relevant players as possible. The Steelers have been borderline unwatchable with Kenny Pickett at quarterback. If he can’t go this week, and the Steelers have to return to Mitchell Trubisky, then you can remove the word “borderline.” And probably remove any Steelers you are clinging to in your fantasy lineups.
See you next week.
