Below, Tyler Knaeble identifies waiver wire RBs to stream in Week 3.
We are back for Week 3 RB Streamers and boy oh boy, the injuries are starting to get out of control. Now we have names like Julius Chestnut being thrown around! Unfortunately, we won’t be breaking down Chestnut in this article, but here are a list of guys to keep your eye on approaching Week 3.
Carson Steele and/or Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs
There is a big hole at running back that needs to be filled in Kansas City. Isiah Pacheco is expected to go on IR with an ankle injury.
As far as running backs actually on the roster, Carson Steele is the obvious pickup. Despite him losing a fumble in Week 2, Steele was the go to guy out of the backfield at some of the most crucial moments late in the game. Samaje Perine has ZERO carries through two games with the Chiefs, so it feels like Steele is the next guy up in a Chiefs offense we want to target.
That being said, Kareem Hunt has taken a visit with the Chiefs. If signed, he is definitely worth a pick up as well. Hunt isn’t the same running back as he was in 2017, when he was a fantasy superstar with the Chiefs. However, he knows the system and could definitely have some short yardage/goal line upside given his body type and skill set. If I only had to pick one, however, I would pick Carson Steele. He is available in over 98-percent of leagues.
Braelon Allen, New York Jets
Week 2 was confirmation Braelon Allen is the clear RB2 in New York. After his two touchdown performance last week, the question is if he has more than just handcuff upside?
Nine touches for 56 yards and two touchdowns is definitely a stat line worth talking about. Allen is a rookie running back that resembles a baby Derrick Henry. If the rookie isn’t rostered in your league (currently available in over 92-percent of leagues), he definitely should be. He has handcuff upside and his superb play should gain him more opportunity on a week-to-week basis.
I’m not saying he should be cracking your lineups any time soon, but Braelon Allen can play!
Ty Chandler, Minnesota Vikings
Ty Chandler is one of my favorite adds this week given the usage and production we have seen from him, especially last week. Chandler put up 82 rushing yards on 10 carries against a very good 49ers defense. Those 10 carries were more than Aaron Jones‘ nine carries in Week 2. Could it have something to do with Jones fumbling inside the ten yard line last week?
Chandler has great handcuff upside to go along with some sneaky week-to-week upside, even with Jones in the lineup. Chandler is rostered in just 46-percent of leagues right now. He’s my favorite RB pickup of the week if he’s available in your league.
Antonio Gibson, New England Patriots
The Patriots might have one of the worst offenses in the NFL, but why is no one talking about Antonio Gibson!? In Week 2, Gibson had 11 carries for 96 against the Seahawks. That was 10 carries less than Rhamondre Stevenson in Week 2, but six more rushing yards.
That being said, Stevenson is the goal line back and has more value based on that. But after Gibson’s performance this past weekend, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him move involved in this offense going forward. He’s rostered in just 32-percent of leagues which is way too low, go get you some Gibby!
