The 2020 Detroit Lions are Flying Under the Dynasty Radar

by Taylor Smith, May 26, 2020

Matthew Stafford averaged 6.9 Deep Ball Attempts per game last season, which was nearly double the 3.7 attempts he averaged over the previous five seasons. That aggressiveness allowed Stafford to post 0.51 (No. 5 among qualified quarterbacks) Fantasy Points per Dropback and 20.8 (No. 4) Fantasy Points per Game. If Bevell continues to call plays that suit Stafford’s cannon, the 2020 Lions can produce fantasy point totals resembling the 2019 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If looking for a young dynasty asset to build around, T.J. Hockenson is an obvious candidate. He didn’t have the most productive rookie season but, at the young age of 22, he still has time to develop into an every-down weapon for the Lions. Hockenson also has one of the most impressive prospect profiles we’ve ever seen, with above-average size-adjusted athleticism across the board, a 24-percent (74th-percentile) College Dominator Rating, and early-first round draft capital.

Drafting for Value: Superflex Startup Review (Part 2)

by Tyler Strong, May 26, 2020

I recently participated in a superflex, TE premium dynasty startup and wrote up my approach. This time, I interviewed a fellow drafter with a different strategy than mine to get some insight on why he drafted how he did and what played into those decisions. While I went with a draft skewed toward younger, hyper-athletic players, my fellow drafters executed unique strategies that kept me intrigued throughout the startup.

One team, run by Justin Edwards of 4for4.com, went with an early dash on the blue chip players at QB and TE, capitalizing on the positional scarcity of the superflex and tight end premium aspects of the league. This is where I wanted to start in my conversation with Justin.

Don’t Forget About 2020 Hidden Gem Olamide Zaccheaus

by The “Mad Chatter” Ryan MK, May 18, 2020

A first glance at Olamide Zaccheaus’ workout metrics won’t overimpress. His 40-yard Dash, Burst Score and Agility Score were a tick above average. Though his 82.4 (16th-percentile among qualified wide receivers) Speed Score underwhelmed, as did his 11.4 (90th-percentile) college yards per reception. He played little in 2019, appearing in three games and catching three of four targets. Although one reception did flash his potential; a 93 yard touchdown- the first of his NFL career.

The Falcons have Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley at wide receiver; behind the pair there is a lack of playmakers. They signed first-round bust Laquon Treadwell in free agency and spent no draft picks on the position. This is a sign of faith in the current group of wideouts on the roster, and creates an opportunity for Zaccheaus to burst into fantasy relevance. For the time being, he’s being overlooked, going undrafted across dynasty leagues and wasting away on the waiver wire. Now is the time to strike.

10 Big Veteran Winners From the NFL Draft

by The Podfather, May 16, 2020

How do you detangled a player from his environment? PlayerProfiler, duh. Joe Mixon was top-5 in both Juke Rate and Yards Created Per Touch last season, which is especially impressive given his volume. The Bengals signaled an extension is coming sooner rather than later when the team refused to use the NFL Draft to gain additional leverage on Mixon. The new collective bargaining agreement’s punitive measures against failing to report to training camp will further dissuade a holdout.

Atlanta opted to give up a second round pick in one of the most talent-rich drafts in NFL history for Hayden Hurst. Few tight ends enter 2020 in a better situation as Atlanta has the most top-heavy receiving corps in the league. You don’t want to know who sits behind Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley and Hurst on the depth chart. While Julio and Ridley are in high-demand, Hurst is still relatively inexpensive across all formats.

Sneaky Dynasty Buys and Sells: Wide Receiver Edition

by Taylor Smith, May 15, 2020

The Jacksonville Jaguars quietly ranked No. 10 in Team Pass Plays Per Game in 2019. Most sportsbooks have them as a four-win team, so Gardner Minshew will be chucking the ball to D.J. Chark often in 2020. That is a recipe for success given Chark’s 115.3 (96th-percentile among qualified wide receivers) Speed Score and Minshew’s 45.1 percent (No. 5) Deep Ball Completion Percentage. At just 23 years old, Chark will be a dynasty building block for years to come.

While most of the weapons return to the Chargers offense, the quarterback shift will change the identity of the offense. Whether Tyrod Taylor holds onto the starting job or Justin Herbert steals the show, the team won’t want either of these passers slinging it 30 times a game. Over the last three seasons, Keenan Allen has averaged 148 targets per year, giving him a monster floor in PPR leagues. That floor will evaporate in this new-look offense.

10 Big Rookie Winners From the NFL Draft

by The Podfather, May 14, 2020

The Steelers front office puts a premium on character and relationships. This combined with the team’s close connection to the University of Maryland helps explain how Anthony McFarland ended up in Pittsburgh with a high-value fourth round selection. The team refuses to commit to the oft-injured James Conner, Benny Snell is just a guy, and Jaylen Samuels never fired. The runway lights are lit for McFarland and his 4.44 speed to lift off as Ben Roethlisberger returns in 2020.

If you think Austin Ekeler’s extreme efficiency will carry over into 2020 sharing a backfield with a rookie quarterback behind an ineffective offensive line, this whole fantasy football things probably isn’t for you. Joshua Kelley is the only Chargers running back with the requisite size and all-purpose skillset to endure as a primary back in the league. The fourth round is the new third round given how the NFL has devalued the RB position. Kelley is the best-value rookie running back in dynasty.
