2022 NFL Team Mock Draft: New York Jets

by Cody Carpentier, February 14, 2022

PlayerProfiler/RotoUnderworld Head Game Analyst and NFL Draft Analyst Cody Carpentier is back for more; now breaking down his NFL Mock Draft 4.0 in a short team-by-team series. Starting with the New York Jets, New York Giants, Detroit Lions, and on to Jacksonville. If you want to see your favorite team, go to Twitter @CarpentierNFL and leave Cody a comment on what team you want to see broken down next.

After taking Mekhi Becton in Round 1 of 2020 and Alijah Vera-Tucker in Round 1 of 2021, completing the Offensive line in this draft is a MUST for New York. Add in Sir Charles Cross in 2022 and your bookend tackles are locked in for the next 8-10 years to protect the future in Zach Wilson. The Jets have finished No. 24 and No. 29 over the last two seasons in Sacks Allowed.

Predicting Combine Measurements for College Running Backs

by Noah Hills, February 8, 2022

If we can’t predict how much college backs will weigh by the time they reach the NFL with any accuracy, then a nihilistic approach to pre-Combine listed weights is appropriate. And if we can predict it with accuracy but not until a player is three or four years into their college career, then not much advantage exists to be gained by paying attention early. Luckily, I’ve found that the answers to the above questions are “pretty well” and “pretty early.”

Pooka Williams and Chris Thompson were both 4-star talents who weighed 175-pounds as high school recruits. Williams was the better college player. But it’s probably not a coincidence that he went undrafted after measuring in at 170 at his Pro Day. Thompson was selected in the fifth round after being 192 pounds at the Combine. It’s unfortunate, but face it, fellas: size matters.

Cam Marino’s 2022 NFL Mock Draft 1.0

by Cam Marino, January 16, 2022

Typically, prior to selecting their franchise quarterback, teams have some sort of foundation built – whether it be a loaded group of playmakers, a strong offensive line, or a strong defense. In this case, the Jaguars did not have a formidable foundation built prior to selecting Trevor Lawrence at pick one last year – bringing them right back to the top of the draft in 2022.

Cody Carpentier’s 2021 NFL Mock Draft 3.0

by Cody Carpentier, April 29, 2021

A smart franchise doesn’t draft a wide receiver in the top 10. Miami has multiple first round picks once again in 2021, and takes advantage of Cincinnati’s leaving Sewell available. Here, Miami takes the cornerstone tackle from Oregon and bumps one of Austin Jackson or Robert Hunt inside to guard.

The Giants aren’t far from winning a playoff game. Protecting Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley has to be the key. GM Dave Gettleman misses out on Sewell and Slater, forcing his hand to trade back, but we all know he doesn’t like to do that. Here, Gettleman reaches for Christian Darrisaw out of Virginia Tech.

Cody Carpentier’s 2021 NFL Mock Draft 2.0

NFL teams do not mortgage the future for one-year wonders like Zach Wilson, or question mark athletes like Mac Jones. Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence have been the best prospects in this class since they were 16 years old, this hasn’t changed. Kyle Shanahan traded up to No. 3 for his guy and QB Collective standout.

The son of former Saints great Joe Horn is looked at as the top cornerback in the draft by many. The next Island Cornerback; think Jalen Ramsey, Richard Sherman, Darrelle Revis – Jaycee Horn is for real, and Bill Belichick gets a gift at No. 15 here, allowing him to team up with or replace Stephon Gilmore.
