After missing the first three weeks of the 2023 season with a hamstring injury, 2022 Rookie Phenom, wide receiver Christian Watson will return to the field on Thursday Night Football as the Green Bay Packers face the Detroit Lions in a division matchup. Barring any setbacks, Watson will help provide quarterback Jordan Love with his full compliment of offensive weapons, if Aaron Jones can also return after injury.
Watson broke out in 2022 and shared the rookie wide receiver touchdown lead of 7 with Jahan Dotson. He added 2 rushing touchdowns, as well. Watson hopes to return to productivity and told reporters he had “planned to play.” The news was broken by Jordan Schultz via Twitter.
While Watson’s return could signify an increase in performance from Love and the offense as a whole, it may lead to decreased roles for wideouts Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Luke Musgrave, all of whom expanded their roles in his absence. Rookie wideouts Reed and Wicks appear to be the two that will be the most affected by Watson’s target share.
