Drake Maye, the 2024 3rd overall pick, is set to start this weekend in the Patriots’ matchup against the Texans.
In the words of Justin Timberlake, it’s gonna be Maye! Drake Maye officially tapped for his season debut, according to Ian Rapoport. This news comes after Jacoby Brissett’s dismal outing against weakened division rival, the Miami Dolphins, where he threw for only 160 yards, no TDs on 52.9% completion percentage.
It does remain to be seen how he will fair behind that Offensive Line, but with the added element of his legs, look for him to run, either on designed plays or scramble drills. You would have to assume this is an upgrade for the pass catchers, but mostly Ja’Lynn Polk (who was a heel away from scoring on Sunday) and Demario Douglas (the team’s leader in targets for Recieivers). It also could make Hunter Henry a decent streaming option at TE, since the position is in a sort of wasteland right now.
For now, keep expectations tempered for the Rookie, but given some time and reps, he could potentially make a decent play later in the year.
