Bryce Young
Panthers Hire Former Buccaneers OC Dave Canales As New Head Coach
11 months ago

The Carolina Panthers are upping the ante in the NFC South by hiring former Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Dave Canales to be their new head coach.

With murmurings of Frank Reich and his staff preferring CJ Stroud as the number 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Panthers 2-15 campaign was an objective failure with Bryce Young. The debate and hindsight analysis may permeate for decades to come. Tuning the noise out, Panthers new GM Dan Morgan has gotten immediately busy by reuniting with Dave Canales from their days in Seattle.

Dave Canales has had recent success on the offensive side of the ball with the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The rise of Geno Smith not answering phone calls and dialing into coaching from Dave Canales helped turn around Geno Smith’s career and get a new contract. Baker Mayfield, who was beginning to journey towards clipboard status in the NFL has revived his career and was just named a finalist for the Associated Press 2023 Comeback Player of the Year Award.

Where Dave Canales goes, quarterback success has followed. Bryce Young gets a talented coach who will get the best out of him. The 2024 NFL Draft just got a lot more exciting for Carolina Panthers fans.
