Allen Robinson II is an NFL wide receiver. Robinson was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He went on to play his high school football at St. Mary’s Preparatory High School in Orchard Lake Village, Michigan. Robinson committed to Penn State University over Minnesota, Buffalo, and Toledo. Allen Robinson barely played as a freshman but balled out in his sophomore and junior seasons. As a sophomore, he brought in 77 receptions for 1,018 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a junior, he improved his numbers to the tune of 97 receptions, 1,432 yards, and six touchdowns. Robinson’s advanced numbers were great as well. His 37.9-percent college dominator rating finished in the 77th-percentile among wide receivers, his 14.8 college yards per reception ranked in the 51st-percentile, and his 19-year-old breakout age ranks in the 88th-percentile.
Allen Robinson's imposing 6-2 220-pound stature matched with a 4.56 40 time and impressive college stats prompted the Jacksonville Jaguars to draft him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft with the 61st overall pick. Robinson was the second wide receiver the Jags drafted in that round after previously selecting Marqise Lee out of USC. Save for a spectacular 2015 season that saw Robinson bring in 80 of 153 targets for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns, Robinson’s Jaguar career was mired by poor quarterback play and finished unceremoniously with a torn ACL in Week 1 of the 2017 season. Robinson was slated to be a free agent the year after and left Jacksonville to become a Chicago Bear.
Unfortunately, quarterback issues followed Allen Robinson to the Windy City. His first season as a Bear ended with just 754 yards and four touchdowns the year after his ACL tear. The next two years were much better for him, however. In the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Robinson averaged 100 receptions, 152.5 targets, 1,198.5 yards, and 6.5 touchdowns. He finished as the WR12 in fantasy in both of those seasons.
Last season though was a nightmare for Allen Robinson. A revolving door at quarterback, a poor offensive line, shifting to a run-first offense to better acclimate rookie Justin Fields, and injuries torpedoed Robinson’s production. He played 12 games and was only able to muster 38 receptions on 66 targets for 410 yards and a touchdown. Expectations for Robinson to continue that rock-solid production were met with disappointment. Allen Robinson's carried a Top-12 ADP heading into 2021, and he finished as the WR94 in fantasy. In real football, he finished outside the top 40 among wide receivers in nearly every statistical category save for snap share (81.7-percent; 27th among wide receivers). His target share dropped like an anvil from 24.59-percent in 2020 to 19.2-percent in 2021. The 14 deep targets he saw ranked 43rd among wide receivers. His total air yards took a dip as a result, as Robinson finished with only 674 of them (No. 60). He was only able to rack up 110 yards after the catch, a number that was 89th at his position.
2021 was a lost season for Robinson. However, he’s still 28 years old and will migrate west to Los Angeles and become a Ram after signing with them as a free agent. Allen Robinson has never had a quarterback in the same stratosphere as Matthew Stafford. 2022 is shaping up to be a bounceback for Robinson to remind us he's still one of the best receivers in the NFL.
