Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has announced that Bo Nix will start at quarterback week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.
After being drafted 12th overall, Bo Nix is set to be the quarterback of the future for the Denver Broncos. Nix joined a quarterback room with Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson after the Broncos moved on from Russell Wilson this past offseason, and he has officially won the starting job. He showed promise in his first two preseason games completing 23/30 passes for 205 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. In comparison, Stidham led six drives this preseason producing one touchdown for the team and throwing two interceptions.
Sean Payton’s offense seems to be a nice fit for Nix as he excels in getting the ball out quickly, drawing some comparison to how Payton ran offenses with Drew Brees at the helm. Nix is a sure starter in superflex leagues and has QB2 upside in redraft. The Broncos look to be a struggling team this year which could provide passing game scripts for Nix. For dynasty managers, Nix being named the starter is huge for his development. It would have been extremely concerning had he not been able to beat out Stidham. Nix does have age concerns as a 24 year old rookie, but starting right away definitely dampens those concerns.

Bo Nix Poised to Win Broncos’ QB Battle?
The Broncos’ quarterback competition is down to Nix and Jarrett Stidham, and Nix is making a strong case to be the Week 1 starter. With Denver picking him 12th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, it’s clear they see big things in him. After a stellar final college season at Oregon, where he threw for 4508 yards with 45 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions, Nix has proven he can lead a team.
With the draft capital and Nix’s experience and age give him an edge in this competition . With 61 college starts, he’s got the skills to make an impact. His current ADP as QB27 on FFPC makes him a potential steal if he’s the starter right out of the gate. While he shouldn’t be on your roster at this point in 1 QB leagues, Nix is definitely worth considering in the later rounds in any format that allows to start 2 QBs.
Bo Nix’s arrival in Denver has sparked controversy as the Broncos assess their quarterback options for the upcoming season.
Bo Nix’s arrival in Denver has stirred up controversy as the Broncos weigh their quarterback choices for the upcoming season. Drafted 12th overall in 2023, Nix joins a competitive lineup with seasoned backups Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. While Stidham has impressed in offseason practices, Nix’s extensive college career positions him as a strong contender for the starting role, potentially as early as Week 1.
Fantasy managers are closely monitoring Nix’s progress, intrigued by his potential to lead Denver’s offense. With a notable college pedigree and the chance to thrive in a team eager for quarterback stability, Nix presents a gamble-reward scenario for fantasy drafts. As the Broncos gear up for the season, the competition among Nix, Stidham, and Wilson will shape fantasy owners’ quarterback strategies, making Nix a key player to watch in fantasy football discussions this year
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton gives media an Broncos update after closing out the first week of OTAs.
After closing out the first week of OTAs, the Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton gave us a much needed update on their offensive situation. After drafting Bo Nix, 12th overall in this year’s NFL draft, Sean Payton had high praise for the rookie saying “he’s farther along than most would be”. Nix should be the front runner to earn the starting job in Denver with his competition being Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson.
Payton also went on to update their tight end room stating that Greg Dulcich is “close” to returning, but didn’t expect the tight end to be back until training camp. Payton went on to give high praise to up and coming TE Lucas Krull by adding how sharp he was looking so far in the OTA’s. A situation worth paying attention to especially if Dulcich were to suffer a setback in training camp.
Unable to duck criticism for his arm strength, the Oregon alumni will look to change the narrative in the NFL with the Broncos.
Bo Nix has been selected by the Denver Broncos with the 12th pick overall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Bo Nix has often been cast away from the big 4 quarterbacks in Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and J.J. McCarthy for this year’s rookie class, however being selected by the Broncos makes for an intriguing landing spot.
Bo Nix advocates will say he can process plays at a really high level and deliver the intermediate ball for a high completion percentage as the former Oregon Duck posted a 72.1 and 77.4 completion percentage in 2022 and 2023 respectively. It remains to be seen how much Sean Payton will expect Bo Nix to challenge NFL defenses with the deep ball.
Surrounded by Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims, look for Bo Nix to hover around the latter part of round 1 in your Dynasty rookie drafts, particularly from the 1.08 and on. Dynasty drafters will have to weigh their roster construction and team need when choosing to click the draft button or pivot elsewhere. Bo Nix is currently 6th in our quarterback rookie rankings.
Bo Nix is out to prove his performance at Oregon wasn’t a fluke.
Bo Nix is one of the quarterbacks throwing at the NFL Combine. While not running the 40 yard dash, Nix will avoid shade from ‘hand size Twitter’ crowd with his 10 1/8’’ hands. At 6’2’’ and 214 lbs, Nix just turned 24 years old in February. The overarching question will be, was Bo Nix a product of the system at Oregon or is there something to be had at the next level for the NFL? As an older rookie there will be questions as to why he didn’t do better sooner.
In an interview with ProFootballTalk, Bo Nix expressed that he can process information at a really high level as his main strength. Nix mentioned things being stale at Auburn leading him to wanting more at Oregon. Bo Nix got more as he was the 2023 Pac-12 offensive player of the year. With a 72.1 and 77.4 completion percentage in 2022 and 2023 respectively, Bo was able to revive his college career.
With arm strength a criticism Nix faces, he was quick to cite Patrick Mahomes and Matthew Stafford as players who can make something out of nothing when not stepping into their passes. Nix feels he is a better post snap player vs. pre-snap. Bo’s 4,508 passing yards, 45 passing TD to only 3 INT indicate this is a valid contention.
Bo Nix is not projecting into the 1st round. With NFL mock draft destinations in the 2nd round this opens the range of outcomes to not being drafted to be an immediate starter. The Panthers have the 33rd pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Real signal for Bo Nix would be a team having time overnight into Day 2 of the draft and trading up to get Bo Nix. A lack of a trade up or aggression with the early 2nd round picks would be an indicator that the NFL doesn’t think too highly of Bo Nix. Currently, Bo Nix is 5th in our Player Profiler rookie quarterback rankings.
