Brock Wright To Have Expanded Role
Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright will be the next man ...
Brock Wright is back in Detroit after matching the 49ers deal.
Brock Wright was a restricted free agent and the Detroit Lions offered him a one-year, $2.985 million contract, which gave them the right to refuse if he received an offer sheet from another team. After Wright signed an offer sheet from the San Francisco 49ers, the Lions had a five-day window to either match it or let him go. Without much hesitation, Detroit chose to match the offer, which enabled Brock Wright to continue playing for the Lions.
Over the last three seasons, Brock Wright has been a part of the Lions. However, he has not had many chances to participate in the passing game and has primarily been used for blocking. Unfortunately, he has been outshined by rookie Sam LaPorta, who excelled as the TE1 in Detroit last season. Due to this, Brock Wright has not been able to secure a starting position as a tight end in his young career.
This situation is unlikely to change even with a new contract in Detroit, but the extra money shouldn’t hurt Wright’s peace of mind.
