Dynasty Faller: Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey is one of the top fallers in PlayerProfiler’s Dynasty Deluxe lifetime value rating for the end of September.

Christian McCaffrey’s dynasty value is on a worrying downward trajectory due to his persistent Achilles tendinitis. The latest news of him seeking treatment overseas indicates that the injury shows no signs of abating, raising concerns about his long-term availability. McCaffrey’s absence during his prime years is a significant loss for his dynasty owners.

At 28, running backs typically face a decline in productivity, making his recovery even more crucial. Given the uncertainty surrounding his health and the potential for extended absence, dynasty fantasy football players should consider trading McCaffrey while his name value remains high. The risk of missing a substantial portion of the 2024 season makes him a less attractive asset for the immediate future and long-term.

Christian McCaffrey Officially Placed on IR
3 months ago

Christian McCaffrey will miss at least the next four weeks after being placed on IR after having his “worst day” with his achilles injury this week.

McCaffrey’s fantasy managers are in absolute shambles right now. The player who seemed like the obvious 1st overall pick in fantasy drafts is now potentially going to miss a large portion of 2024 with an injury that was widely disregarded headed into the season. No procedure is expected to be needed for him to make a full recovery.

This news bolsters the value of Jordan Mason significantly, especially in redraft formats. Mason tallied 147 rushing yards and a touchdown in week 1 vs. the Jets while playing 81% of the teams snaps, and is expected to see a similar workload in any games McCaffrey will miss going forward. Fantasy Managers who roster McCaffrey should try and scrap and claw their way to the playoffs and hope CMC can return for a championship run. Fantasy Managers who roster Mason in redraft should only trade him for a large haul, otherwise they should just ride this wave for as long as it lasts.

San Francisco 49ers Look to Limit Workload for Star RB Christian McCaffrey
5 months ago

Kyle Shanahan told reporters he wants to get other players more involved to keep McCaffrey healthy deep into the postseason.

Star running back Christian McCaffrey is the epitome of a workhorse running back. His ability to run and catch the ball is equal to none. McCaffrey is notorious for never wanting to leave the field for any reason. He has that warrior mindset that he never turns down a challenge. McCaffrey led the NFL last season with 1,459 rushing yards with a league tying lead of 21 total touchdowns and 564 receiving yards. In turn, he was awarded the NFL Offensive Player of Year. He accomplished all this on 339 total touches, second most since since his 2019 season in Carolina where he had a 1,000 yards both rushing and receiving. After the breakthrough 2019 season, McCaffrey only played 10 games the next 2 seasons on Carolina, then he was traded to the 49ers part way through the 2022 season. Entering his age 28 season in 2024, he was rewarded with 2 year contract extension that makes him the highest paid running back in the NFL.

Whether the 49ers limit CMC’s load or not will be remain to be seen when the season starts. He is simply too elite to take off the field, and his presence alone makes Kyle Shanahan’s schemes extremely difficult to defend, and this offense isn’t expected to look any different from last season. The team returns veterans Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason and brought in free agent Patrick Taylor Jr. along with rookies Isaac Guerendo and Cody Schrader. None of these backs match McCaffrey’s presence or talent, no matter how eye-popping Isaac Guerendo’s athletic profile looks. There is no reason to turn away from McCaffrey in redraft and best ball. When healthy, no other back can match the efficiency and workload he brings. McCaffrey even profiles as great a early round option in start-up dynasty leagues if you want to win now.

Christian McCaffrey Looks to Continue Family Legacy
10 months ago

Christian McCaffrey is the son of a 3X Super Bowl Champion, and he hopes to add a trophy to the family’s collection.

Most football fans you talk to outside of Baltimore think of one player if you ask them, “Who is the most valuable player to their team in the NFL?” That player is San Francisco 49ers do-it-all running back Christian McCaffrey. If the Kansas City Chiefs want a chance to win Super Bowl 58, they’ll have to devise a way to stop CMC.

Fantasy players know, CMC is virtually unstoppable. The 49ers know it too. And in a week where team performance is paramount, check out this stat: When the 49ers have their Big 4 on the field and healthy at the same time, that big 4 being McCaffrey, TE George Kittle, and wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, CMC averages 142.4 scrimmage yards.

That happened 10 times in 2023. CMC totaled one thousand 424 total yards in those 10 games alone.

If the 49ers win, CMC will be the major factor.

And with CMCs dad, Ed, being a Super Bowl Champ, an SF win over KC in SB LVIII will mean C = MC squared.

Christian McCaffrey out for Week 18; Elijah Mitchell next man up
11 months ago

Christian McCaffrey is out for the final game of the regular season with a mild calf strain; Elijah Mitchell will be lead back in week 18.

During last week’s game against the Commanders, Christian McCaffrey suffered a calf strain and had to leave last week’s game early. However, his exit from the game was a precautionary measure as the 49ers were already in control of the game. As the team has now secured the number 1 seed in the NFC, there is no need for McCaffrey to play in week 18. Expect other 49er starters as well to be sitting in week 18.

McCaffrey will end his electric year with All-Pro numbers across the board with 1459 yards rushing, 2023 all-purpose yards, 21 touchdowns, and finishing the season in the MVP conversation.

Last week, Elijah Mitchell performed exceptionally well, carrying the ball 17 times for 80 yards and scoring a touchdown. With McCaffrey already ruled out, it is expected that Mitchell will continue to play a vital role in the 49ers’ backfield in week 18 along with Jordan Mason who will see some playing time as well.
