Cole Kmet is a tight end for the Chicago Bears. He played football and baseball in high school and college, with Kmet attending Notre Dame. Kmet enjoyed more success with football than baseball with the Fighting Irish, and in three seasons, he posted college stats of 60 receptions for 691 yards and six touchdowns. All six of his scores came in his final season, along with 43 grabs for 515 yards.
Cole Kmet flashed exceptional athletic traits in the pre-draft process ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft. These included an 84th percentile Speed Score and an 89th percentile Burst Score. Kmet's 4.70 40 time also raised a few eyebrows among the NFL scouting community. He also showed off a wingspan of 10.07. The Bears selected him in the second round of the draft.
Kmet drew 44 targets as a rookie, catching 28 for 243 yards and two touchdowns. He probably should have seen more work considering his knack for getting open. He was No.9 among all tight ends with 1.75 Target Separation and was No.4 with a True Catch Rate of 93.3%. This fell to 83.3% in 2021 where Kmet was hampered by a Target Quality Rate of 4.91 (No.18) and a Target Accuracy of 6.85 (No.32). In his second season, Kmet played 83.7% of the Bears' offensive snaps but had just 395 pass routes run, a mark exceeded by 13 other players. He still commanded a 17.7 percent target share. Kmet led all NFL tight ends in targets (93) without a single touchdown in 2021. He did commit three drops, however. Kmet saw nine deep balls in 2021 and commanded a 17.6 percent share of the Bears' air yards while finishing No.17 with 246 YAC.
