Dameon Pierce was a 4-star prospect out of Bainbridge High School in Bainbridge, GA. He received offers from a number of top programs while setting rushing records at Bainbridge High. Originally, Pierce committed to Alabama, but decommitted and eventually became a Florida Gator. His stats didn't pop off the page, but he was productive every year at Florida, starting with his freshman year where he was the No. 3 running back, but still rushed for 424 yards. After a down 2019 year, Pierce bounced back and became the leading rusher for the Gators in 2020, going for 503 yards and four touchdowns. In 2021, Dameon Pierce continued as the leading rusher and was No. 2 in running back receptions. Demonstrating an all-purpose back skillset, he was invited to the Senior Bowl where his finesse as a runner stood out.
At the NFL Combine, Pierce disappointed with a 56th-percentile Speed Score and below average explosiveness. He was selected in the 4th round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. Pierce took over the backfield as a workhorse back in his rookie season and become a workhorse for the Texans. He managed to produce a RB2 season, despite being attached to the worst offense in the NFL in 2022. The Texans look to head in a new direction in 2023. While he may end up splitting rushing attempts with new backfield mate Devin Singletary, Pierce showed is a solid tackle-breaker and should be a key contributor in a new-look offense.
