Derek Carr suffered an oblique injury that will keep him out multiple weeks.
New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr started the season off red hot, but in the last few weeks he has cooled off. Now he will miss multiple weeks due to suffering an oblique injury in Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Saints will look for a new starting QB for next couple games, all signs point to rookie Spencer Rattler. Rattler was selected in the fifth round of the 2024 Draft. He started college at Oklahoma and finished at South Carolina. Some may recognize his name from Netflix show called QB1: Beyond the Lights.
The outlook for the Saints next couple of games without Carr at QB appear to be iffy, while they will look to lean on the rookie. They will face Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos the next two games. For fantasy look for the Saints to continue to give Alvin Kamara the ball and perhaps also look for Taysom Hill to get some snaps if he is healthy. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed can have success against the Buccaneers, they just allowed Darnell Mooney and Drake London both 100-yards.

The New Orleans Saints trounce their division rival 47-10 in week 1.
The New Orleans Saints pulled ahead in the NFC South division race by defeating their division rival Carolina Panthers 47-10. Derek Carr and the Klint Kubiak offense get off to a hot start.
Rashid Shaheed was the star receiver of the day with 3 receptions for 73 yards receiving and a touchdown. Alvin Kamara had 83 rushing yards and a touchdown to go along with 5 receptions for 27 yards receiving.
Bryce Young had a putrid 43.3% completion percentage, 161 passing yards, and 0 touchdowns. Diontae Johnson had 2 receptions for 19 yards. There aren’t enough Bojangles biscuits to be served that will help Panther fans recover from the week 1 disappointment.
The Saints will face a big test in week 2 traveling to face the Dallas Cowboys while the Panthers nightmare will continue in Charlotte versus the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Saints are seeing gold with prospective hire Klint Kubiak.
The Saints have continually swiped the credit card with a buy now and pay later mentality regarding the NFL salary cap. In a move that would make Dave Ramsey proud, the Saints most recently committed to the Ramen noodle diet by restructuring Derek Carr’s contract.
Where there is inflexibility with roster building, the Saints have plenty of agency in who they can hire for their coaching staff; enter Klint Kubiak.
Derek Carr was 37th in red zone accuracy in 2023. Klint Kubiak will deploy more motion as well as slither formations in the red zone to help manufacture passing game opportunity for running backs which is a perfect fit for Alvin Kamara. Sending skill position players in motion will also give more deceptive looks to free up alpha wide receiver Chris Olave. A fun sprinkle to all this that Kubiak did not have in San Francisco is being able to be creative with Swiss army knife Taysom Hill.
Expect more creativity for the New Orleans Saints going forward. Buy Saints skill position players in 2024.
Derek Carr and Chris Olave Questionable for Week 14; Expected to Play
Derek Carr has cleared concussion protocol and, to the disappointment of fantasy owners, is expected to be on the field in Week 14 against the Carolina Panthers. Despite being limited earlier in the week, Carr became a full participant in Friday’s practice, dealing with a concussion, right shoulder, and rib injuries. While officially questionable for Sunday, all signs point to his active participation. Chris Olave, who missed practice due to illness, is also anticipated to play. Taysom Hill, nursing foot and left-hand injuries, is listed as questionable after missing practice.
The New Orleans Saints, facing a three-game losing streak, contemplate a shift to Jameis Winston for a much-needed spark. Winston and Carr bring distinct playing styles to the table; Winston, akin to a sports car, is known for his aggressive, strong-arm, shot-taking approach, in contrast to Carr’s reliable Sedan style, favoring shorter high-percentage passes. Despite fantasy owners yearning for Winston’s high-energy plays, it seems they’ll have to temporarily park that experience in the garage.
Saints QB Derek Carr is Week to Week with a Sprained AC Joint. Jameis Winston is expected to start Week 4.
The New Orleans Saints Head Coach Dennis Allens says QB Derek Carr is week to week with a sprained AC Joint. The Saints will be cautious with Carr’s injury recovery. The injury occurred during Sunday’s heartbreaking loss to the Green Bay Packers. Carr was slammed to the ground on his right shoulder and immediately removed from the game, He was later taken to the hospital as a precaution and checked for internal injuries. Jamies Winston came in for Carr in the third quarter and went 10 for 16 for 101 yards. Winston led the team into field goal range to win the game but the kicker missed the kick.
Jamies Winston will be the starter in week 4 against his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs rank sixth in the league against the pass in this young season. Winston played in three games last season completing 73 of 115 pass attempts for 858 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions.
With Carr being week to week, Jameis Winston is worthy of an add in Superflex leagues. He isn’t afraid to chuck the ball and he has some of the best weapons in football with Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, and Rashid Shaheed. The Saint’s next four opponents are vs. Tampa Bay, at New England, at Houston, and vs Jacksonville.
