The Baltimore Ravens have traded with the Carolina Panthers for veteran wide receiver Diontae Johnson, per Ian Rapoport. Baltimore receives Johnson and a 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick.
The Ravens desperately needed wide receivers over the last few years, and they’ve done everything they can to fill this hole. Johnson, well-known for his route-running prowess, figures to be a prominent figure in the team’s passing game, but he’s not alone. 2022 first-round pick Zay Flowers has already amassed 100 receptions and 1,300 receiving yards in his career, and Rashod Bateman is in the midst of a career year. The Ravens also have the luxury of two tight ends who are dangerous in the receiving game: Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely. From a fantasy perspective, each of Johnson’s new teammates loses value due to his elite target-earning ability. But from a real-life perspective, Baltimore’s offense just got even better.
Anyone associated with the Ravens organization is already familiar with Johnson. Before playing seven games for the Panthers this season, Johnson spent his entire career playing for the Ravens biggest rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Johnson recorded 45 receptions for 495 yards and three touchdowns in nine career games against the Ravens. Now, he has a chance to prove how he can help them rather than hurting them.

Dave Canales sticking with veteran QB, no intent to trade Young
Amid what is shaping up to be a lost season, several Panthers players are rumored to be trade candidates, including second-year QB Bryce Young. Other Panthers players rumored to be trade targets are Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen, Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders. The NFL’s trade deadline is just two weeks away – November 5th.
Dalton’s Week 7 was about as bad as it gets with the 14-year vet throwing just 11 completions for 93 yards and two interceptions, including one the Commanders returned for a TD. Bryce Young wasn’t much better in his starts, throwing for a combined 245 yards and three picks in two games this season. Canales benched Young earlier this season, opting for Dalton. Dalton got off to a hot start, but has taken steps back the last few weeks.
Young himself denied trade rumors, stating he is “grateful to be part of the Panthers.” For now, Canales said he is sticking with Dalton. But the Panthers head coach, who has been successful reviving the careers of Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield, will likely give Young another shot if Dalton continues to struggle under center. The team would be selling low on their former No. 1 pick if they chose to trade Young now, and they owe it to themselves to give Young every shot to develop.

After a resurgent week for the Carolina Panthers, Adam Thielen is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks.
The Panthers expect Adam Thielen to miss some time with a hamstring injury he suffered upon scoring a touchdown. Thielen had 3 receptions for 40 yards.
The Panthers had their way with the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday with a convincing 36-22 victory. The loss of Adam Thielen will have more of a cumulative effect on the win-loss nature of real football results.
The fantasy impact with Thielen’s absence will be a boost to Diontae Johnson. Johnson went off for 8 receptions, 122 yards, and a touchdown on 14 targets. Expect an even larger part of the passing pie to go towards Diontae Johnson.
There will be a further emphasis for the running game as the Panthers had mass success with Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders. Hubbard led the way Sunday with 114 rushing yards while tacking on 5 receptions, 55 receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown. Things are looking up in Carolina.
It took 2 weeks and shorter notice for Bryce Young to be benched in favor of the veteran Andy Dalton.
The Carolina Panthers are in a desperate spot as they are already down 0-2 to start the season with losses to the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers in consecutive weeks.
Bryce Young has done very little early on to merit being the starting quarterback going forward. This is a quick sign after just one season that the Carolina Panthers are ready to move in another direction. Having been outscored 73-13 in 2 games, the Panthers are shifting over to veteran Andy Dalton.
The Panthers travel to Las Vegas in week 3 and have decided they are better off gambling on Andy Dalton as their starting quarterback going forward. This is a huge boost to Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen, and will help keep defenses honest against the run game providing Chuba Hubbard life again. At the very least, Andy Dalton will succeed in giving the Panthers offense a respectable floor which is something Bryce Young could not provide up to this point.

The New Orleans Saints pulled ahead in the NFC South division race by defeating their division rival Carolina Panthers 47-10. Derek Carr and the Klint Kubiak offense get off to a hot start.
Rashid Shaheed was the star receiver of the day with 3 receptions for 73 yards receiving and a touchdown. Alvin Kamara had 83 rushing yards and a touchdown to go along with 5 receptions for 27 yards receiving.
Bryce Young had a putrid 43.3% completion percentage, 161 passing yards, and 0 touchdowns. Diontae Johnson had 2 receptions for 19 yards. There aren’t enough Bojangles biscuits to be served that will help Panther fans recover from the week 1 disappointment.
The Saints will face a big test in week 2 traveling to face the Dallas Cowboys while the Panthers nightmare will continue in Charlotte versus the Los Angeles Chargers.
After a successful collegiate career at LSU, Terrace Marshall Jr.’s career has been forgettable.
The Carolina Panthers are releasing 4th year wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. The move comes after 3 seasons of never quite breaking through. There were some glimmers and flashes of the LSU version of Marshall, however nothing consistent ever came to fruition.
The move is not surprising as the Panthers have a new regime and coaching staff. Given that there aren’t many ties left to who scouted and brought Terrace Marshall in, this cut makes sense. The Panthers have signaled a desire to improve production from their wide receiver room.
Diontae Johnson is the locked-in No.1 wideout in Carolina with hope for rookie Xavier Legette to take on a role similar to how Deebo Samuel is deployed in San Francisco. Diontae Johnson is worth the click in redraft and best ball leagues at ADP, with Xavier Legette a wise option in the double digit rounds. As Jordan Matthews is kindling a comeback story in Carolina, Terrace Marshall will look to make his personal bounceback with another team.
