Fletcher Cox retires after 12 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fletcher Cox, age 33 defensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles, has announced his retirement via Instagram. Drafted 12th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft from Mississippi State, Cox has been a long-time pillar of the Eagles defensive line. The six-time Pro Bowler, four-time All-Pro and Super Bowl LII champion leaves an accomplished career with 519 total tackles, 70.0 sacks (5th in Eagles history), 16 forced fumbles and 3 defensive touchdowns.
No. 91 spent his entire 12-year career with Philly, serving as team captain for six straight seasons. Upon signing his most recent one year, $10 million contract for 2023, there was speculation that it would be his last season. Cox’s announcement follows Jason Kelce, long-time center for the Eagles, who also retired earlier this year.
In 2023, the Eagles regressed to a bottom three team defense. Eagles Nation will surely miss the veteran and will look to young standouts Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis to continue in Cox’s footsteps.
