Geno Smith is the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. He played college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers, starting for his final three seasons in Morgantown. He was a productive college quarterback, amassing more than 4,000 yards passing in his final two seasons and 42 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions in his senior season. He was drafted in the second round (2.07) in 2013, and started 16 games in his rookie season. He threw for more 3,046 yards that season, but only 12 touchdowns. He started 13 games in his sophomore season, throwing for 2525 yards and 13 touchdowns. During the preseason of the 2015 season (his third season), Smith was punched by a teammate during a locker room scuffle, fracturing Smith's jaw and sidelining him for most of the season. Smith was replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick, who became the Jets' starter for the remainder of the season. Smith was relegated to a backup for multiple teams until a triumphant resurgence in 2022 as the Seahawks' starter.
The Seahawks traded Russell Wilson during the 2022 offseason. Prior to the season, Smith was said to be in a QB competition with Drew Lock, who was traded to Seattle in the deal for Wilson. Smith ended up starting every game and played 100-percent of the snaps that season. He was No. 9 in EPA (109.9) among QBs and No. 11 in Accuracy Rating (7.8), while being aggressive throwing the ball downfield. He was No. 8 in the league in Adjusted Air Yards Per Attempt (7.1) and No. 3 in Deep Ball Accuracy Rating (6.6), with 37 Money Throws (No. 3). The Seahawks signed Smith to a 3-year, $75 million contract following the 2023 season. The team added some young offensive talent in the last two seasons, and head into the 2023 season looking to Smith to lead a highly productive offense into the playoffs.
