Training camp injuries are popping up early for the San Francisco 49ers.
A week after training camp has started the San Francisco 49ers have a few players missing time due to various injuries. Defensive end Drake Jackson has been ruled out for the rest of training camp with a knee injury, head coach Kyle Shanahan did not provide a timeline for his return. Along with Jackson, wide receiver Jacob Cowing and running back Isaac Guerendo are out with hamstring injuries. Cowling is only expected to miss 10 days. Guerendo will miss several weeks with his hamstring injury.
This is a blow for Drake Jackson who was drafted in the 2nd round out of USC in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has been dealing with several injuries in his short time with the Niners. Cowing and Guerendo are camp bodies at this point in camp, if they are not healthy leading up to the regular season both players may be candidates for injured reserve or worst, cut from the team altogether. Guerendo shocked the fantasy world with his athleticism on display at the NFL Combine. Athleticism doesn’t mean anything with this coaching staff unless players grasp the offense. This puts Guerendo way behind on learning this offense. The seasonal outlook is not bright for Guerendo.

Former Louisville Cardinal Isaac Guerendo looks to be 3rd on the depth chart behind starter Christian McCaffrey, and back up Elijah Mitchell.
Rookie running back Isaac Guerendo splashed onto the scene with his explosive numbers at the NFL combine. He blazed with a 4.33 second 40-yard dash, while also recording a 100th percentile Speed Score and a 98th percentile Burst Score. These metrics put Guerendo as the 8th most athletic running back all-time in the PlayerProfiler database! Measuring in at 6 foot and weighing 221 pounds, he has drawn comparisons to Jonathan Taylor. The comparison stops when it comes to production on the field. Guerendo only registered 230 carries in his 4-year college career, with his career high being 132 attempts in his Senior season. Guerendo was stuck behind fellow rookie back in Braelon Allen for the first 3 years at Wisconsin. He transferred to Louisville to get more playing time, he played every game but dealt with hamstring issues. With the 49ers, Guerendo has the same herculean task of overcoming a highly talented back on the depth chart with Christian McCaffrey leading the way. Guerendo has to contribute on special teams if he wants to make an immediate impact on the team.
Isaac Guerendo is as about as sexy of fantasy pick as you can get in the later rounds of dynasty leagues. He may be 3rd on the depth chart in San Francisco, but injuries have affected both backs in front of him. If both go down, it’s peddle to the metal for Guerendo to showcase that rare athleticism for Kyle Shanahan. He currently is RB65 in dynasty ADP, which I believe to be too low for his level of talent, regardless who is in front of him on the depth chart. With the running back position being so volatile he is bound to see the field and when he does, watch out! He may blaze his way into a larger role, relieving Christian McCaffrey from time to time.
Former Louisville Running Back Isaac Guerendo is learning the multifaceted RB role in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
Isaac Guerendo is learning the 49ers offense for Kyle Shanahan. Guerendo did not have much experience playing in college until he transferred from Wisconsin to Louisville for his fifth-year senior season. He finished the season with 810 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns and 22 catches for 234 receiving yards.
When fantasy players saw Isaac Guerendo’s numbers from the combine, they had to scramble to figure out who the hell the guy is! For whatever reason Gurendo has never had a chance to truly carry a team on his back. Sadly, Guerendo will have a hard time getting on the field with the fantasy GOAT Christian McCaffrey playing. Guerendo is deep stash handcuff to McCaffrey. Should McCaffrey go down with injury, look for sparks to fly when Guerendo totes the rock!
Louisville RB Shines at Combine
Introducing Issac Guerendo, a dynamic running back hailing from Louisville with immense potential for fantasy football success. With a remarkable Relative Athletic Score of 9.99, Guerendo’s athleticism is off the charts. As a former wide receiver, he brings speed and agility to the field, evident in his impressive 4.33 40-yard dash time. In his collegiate career, Guerendo amassed 810 yards with an outstanding 6.1 yards per carry average and scored 11 touchdowns, showcasing his playmaking ability and knack for finding the end zone.
What sets Guerendo apart is his extraordinary athleticism, particularly for his size. He holds the title for the fastest 40-yard dash among players weighing 220 pounds or more, a feat unmatched in recent history. Additionally, he ranks in the top five for vertical jump and broad jump among players of similar weight over the past two decades, highlighting his explosive power and leaping ability.
Fantasy football enthusiasts should take note of Guerendo as a late-round steal with the potential to deliver significant returns. His combination of speed, athleticism, and playmaking skills make him a valuable asset to any fantasy roster, poised to make a notable impact in the upcoming season.
The San Francisco 49ers have selected running back Isaac Guerendo from the University of Louisville with the 129th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
After being buried in Wisconsin’s running back room, Isaac Guerendo transferred to Louisville and made himself known his senior season 810 yards (6.1 YPC) and 11 touchdowns. He also added 22 catches for 232 yards. Guerendo was a big time combine winner after absolutely lighting up every test thrown at him. He posted a 4.33 40-yard dash, a 41.5 inch vertical jump, and a 10’9” broad jump which was good enough for a relative athletic score of 9.98. Very impressive for his size at 6’0” and 221 pounds.
Guerendo now finds himself in a decent fantasy situation for a later pick. Yes, he is stuck behind Christian McCaffrey, but Elijah Mitchell is entering the last year of his deal and Guerendo should find himself as McCaffrey’s primary backup by 2025. Guerendo’s speed should pair well into the 49ers running scheme and we’ve seen how valuable that 49ers backup running back spot has been in the past. The 49ers also traded up for Guerendo showing he was a player they specifically sought out. You should have no reservations taking a shot at Guerendo in the later rounds of your rookie drafts and he would make a great taxi squad stash for a year.
Louisville RB Isaac Guerendo impresses at Combine posting the best RAS in the past 24 years
Louisville RB Isaac Guerendo impresses at the Combine posting the best RAS in the past 24 years. Guerendo becomes only the second player to post a 9.99 since 1997. The last time this was accomplished was way back in 1999 when Edgerin James did it, and we all know his historic career went. Guerendo’s historic day started when he posted the best vertical jump of the day of 41.5”. He then went on to post the best 40 yard dash time of 4.33, where he hit a top speed of 24mph. Guerendo was the only running back this year to reach the 24mph mark this year at the Combine.
Guerendo is a great outside zone runner with good vision, he is a good pass catcher, and his speed mixed in with his size makes him a very intriguing prospect, especially after crushing it at the Combine. An injury plagued 2022 season with the Wisconsin Badgers saw Guerendo’s stock fall, which led to his transfer to Louisville. In 2023, Guerendo carried the ball 123 times for 810 yards and 11 touchdowns. Splitting time with Jahwar Jordan last year at Louisville, Guerendo should have very little wear on his body.
With Guerendo’s strong showing at the Combine, he becomes one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft class, especially when you consider how wide open this running back class is. After the Combine Guerendo stock skyrocketed, and now has put himself in the conversation of being one of the first 5 running backs off the board in this draft class.
