Jahmyr Gibbs was a four-star recruit as a running back from Dalton, GA. He committed to Georgia Tech to play college football, where he had over 700 all-purpose yards as a true freshman. Gibbs followed up that season by rushing for over 700 yards and more than 400 receiving yards in his second season as a Yellowjacket. Gibbs was then onto bigger and better things, transferring to the University of Alabama to finish out his college career.
The Tide's backfield opened up after the departure of Brian Robinson to the NFL and Gibbs was inserted as the lead rusher. In a down year for Alabama, Gibbs led the team by a large margin in both rushing yards and yards from scrimmage. He also led the team with 44 receptions, furthering his profile as a top-notch receiving back. His 1,300 all-purpose yards and 10 total touchdowns made Gibbs a highly-touted NFL prospect and he was selected with the 12th pick in the 1st round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.
Gibbs made an immediate impact in his rookie season while sharing the Detroit backfield with fifth-year back David Montgomery. The rookie immediately made good on his draft stock, totaling over 1,200 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns, and finished as the RB8 in fantasy points per game.
