David Montgomery signs 2-Year Extension

Lions RB David Montgomery signs a 2-year extension with $10.5 million in guaranteed money.

Late Saturday night, the Detroit Lions extended David Montgomery to a 2-year extension worth $18.25 million and $10.5 million guaranteed.  He is locked into a contract for the Lions through the 2027 season.

Some Jahmyr Gibbs managers won’t like hearing this but Montgomery is going to still be in town for a couple more years than expected.  The Lions have one of the best 1-2 punches in the league this year at running back.  Gibbs is currently RB-6 on the year and Montgomery is RB-13.  Nothing changes for the rest of this year with this news as they are both easily starts in your fantasy lineup.

Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson Staying in Detroit
9 months ago

The Detroit Lions have their Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson back.

One of the most sought-after coaches in the NFL, Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson is coming back to Detroit Lions for at least another season.  After losing to the San Fransico 49ers in the NFC Championship game it was thought Ben Johnson was going to be the next Head Coach for either Washington Commanders or Settle Seahawks, but Ben Johnson informed both teams he is returning to Detroit.

With this news that means the Lions should remain an explosive offense for at least another season.  Johnson, who is 37 years old, was promoted to OC in 2022, which, turned around Jared Goff and the Lions offense into one of the best in the league.  Next year, he will again be one of the top names in the Head Coach vacancies.  Perhaps, he is waiting for the Bills or Cowboys jobs to open up.

David Montgomery Returns For The Lions

Detroit running back David Montgomery will return from injury Thursday night as the Lions face the Green Bay Packers.

David Montgomery was sidelined last week after suffering a thigh bruise in Week 2. He will return to the field on Thursday Night Football as the Detroit Lions’ lead running back. The Lions face the Green Bay Packers in the matchup.

Montgomery led the Lions in RB touches in the first two weeks and is expected to wrest that role back from rookie teammate Jahmyr Gibbs. Although Montgomery is firmly planted as the “primary back”, fantasy owners should view the pair as a duo and expect workloads that approach equal touches.

Jahmyr Gibbs Disappoints in Season-Opener
1 year ago

Running Back David Montgomery led the Lions backfield in touches in Week 1 as Jahmyr Gibbs disappointed in debut.

Jahmyr Gibbs fantasy football owners are disappointed everywhere today. With the thought that the Lions would go with more of a 50/50 time share approach heading into the season. However, it was veteran running back David Montgomery commanding the backfield. Montgomery led the backfield with 55 snaps, while Jahmyr Gibbs played just 19 which was a 27% snap share.

With that snap disparity, Montgomery also outproduced Gibbs in fantasy points 13.4 to just 6 for Gibbs. Gibbs did see two targets in the passing game, however, some had thought Gibbs could be the second-leading target-getter behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, but he finished fifth in targets on the team in targets in Week 1.

It’s not time to hit the panic button on Gibbs just quite yet. Gibbs is expected to keep getting more involved in the offense as the season progresses starting next week against the Seattle Seahawks.
