Jordan Mims Showing Well in Saints Training Camp
4 months ago

With Kendre Miller out, Jordan Mims is making good impressions in training camp.

Saints ESPN reporter Katherine Terrell reports that there is a significant change in how the Saints backfield is playing out when Alvin Kamara is not in the practice rotation. On UnderDog, Jordan Mims currently has a round 18 ADP.

While Jordan Mims may not light the fantasy football world on fire, it is noteworthy that Mims is making a name for himself by increasing his chances of making the team with quality play. Saints head coach Dennis Allen is sharply critical of his players publicly, but within the bearish sentiments Allen has there lies openings via the merit of playing well during training camp.

Dennis Allen recently came down on Mims’ backfield mate Kendre Miller due to a lack of availability and living in the training room from injuries and ailments. While Jordan Mims is not threat to Alvin Kamara, keep an eye on further training camp reports throughout August as Jordan Mims competes with Kendre Miller and veteran Jamaal Williams. A lengthier absence from Kendre Miller and a lack of the Saints bringing in a new running back to compete will be a signal boost for Jordan Mims. Be on the lookout for both scenarios as the pre-season unfolds.

The Saints Rushing Attack will March On with a New Scheme
6 months ago

The influence of Mike Shanahan continues as the New Orleans Saints will utilize the highly successful wide-zone rushing attack.

The New Orleans Saints are changing their rushing attack in 2024. Matthew Paras from Saints Now wrote an article on the changing dynamics for the rushing attack of the New Orleans Saints. With Klint Kubiak in town as the new Offensive Coordinator, there has been plenty of talk about more pre-snap motion.

In addition to pre-snap motion, the Saints are going to deploy a wide-zone run scheme that utilizes athletic lineman getting out in space to allow for more rushes to the edge and outside boundaries of the field. Last year, Saints running backs were set up in positions where they had to utilize more cutbacks and grind for their yardage.

Offensive line coach John Benton was quoted as saying, “This system requires linemen to beat defenders to spots on the field rather than engaging them to just “grind it out.” While these changes are being installed at minicamp, Alvin Kamara has been absent from voluntary workouts.

Currently, Alvin Kamara is going in round 6 on UnderDog with Kendre Miller going in round 13. Jamaal Williams is free in round 18. With Klint Kubiak using this successful run scheme, expect the Saints backfield to churn out plenty of fantasy goodness in 2024.

Jamaal Williams (Hamstring) Out Week 3

Jamaal Williams is out Week 3 with a Hamstring Injury.

Jamaal Williams is out Week 3 with a Hamstring Injury. Williams left in the first half of the Saints’ win against the Carolina Panthers and wasn’t able to return to the game. Coach Dennis Allen says Williams’ injury could ‘take some time’ to recover from. Williams was a big offseason signing for the Saints after leading the league in touchdowns last year with the Detroit Lions.

Tony Jones Jr and Tayson Hill split the work once Williams left the game. Taysom Hill had 9 carries for 75 yards while Tony Jones Jr. had 12 carries for 34 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie Kendre Miller was inactive in Week 2 with a hamstring injury.

Alvin Kamara will be serving the last game of his suspension in week 3 so look for Kendre Miller, Tony Jones Jr., and Taysom Hill to split the backfield work.  Rookie 3rd round pick, Kendre Miller, will make his NFL debut this week. He missed time in the preseason with a knee injury and missed the first two weeks of the season with a hamstring injury. Miller was close to being active last week but coach Dennis Allen wanted Miller to get more practice reps in before being active. Kendre Miller was a full participant in this week’s practice so we expect he is a full go this week.  The TCU rookie, Miller, finished last year with 1,399 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. He should get the bulk of the work with Jones and Hill mixing in against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3.

Alvin Kamara 3 Game Suspension

The NFL has suspended Alvin Kamara 3-games for his role in an altercation in February. Kamara will miss games against the Titans, Panthers, and Packers.

Alvin Kamara will miss the first three games of the New Orleans Saints season. The suspension comes in at less than we thought, with the expected outcome to be 4-6 games lost. Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller will split the backfield early in the season.

Kamara led all running backs in % of snaps played across is 15 contests, a feat the Saints do not seem intent on repeating. Jamaal Williams was brought in on a 3-year, $12M deal to spell Kamara between-the-tackles and on the goalline. New Orleans then drafted Kendre Miller in the 3rd Round, with designs of him replacing Alvin Kamara in the long run.

If the GM who rosters Kendre Miller in Dynasty lowers the price at all due to the truncated suspension, now is the time to buy. The Saints can save over $11M in cap space by moving on from Kamara next summer.
