Undrafted free agent rookie tight end Julian Hill made the Dolphins’ final roster.
Julian Hill, the 6’3″, 247lb. UDFA from Campbell College survived final cuts in Miami after thoroughly impressing the Dolphin staff throughout camp. Hill more than doubled the entire tight end room in snap count and routes run while also leading in targets earned this preseason. The Dolphins had a deficiency of pass-catching talent at the TE position with the departure of Mike Gesicki. This could be filled by Hill if his preseason usage is any indication. Incumbent Durham Smythe has always been more of a conventional in-line run-blocking tight end, failing to eclipse more than 17 routes in any game last year.
Keep expectations for Julian Hill in check for fantasy, but keep in mind a positive run-out in Week 1 could land him atop every TE waiver list. Monitor his in-game utilization because a lion’s share of snaps could make him a viable weekly play.
