Kellen Mond is a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. He went to high school in San Antonio, Texas, before transferring his senior year to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. His senior year, he had 1,936 yards passing, 20 passing touchdowns and 18 rushing touchdowns. He was rated as the number one dual threat quarterback prospect coming out of high school in 2017, and committed to Texas A&M. Kellen Mond entered his freshman year as a backup, but once the starter was injured in Week 1, he was thrust into the starting position for the remainder of the season. His sophomore season was bookmarked by an epic 74-72 overtime win against LSU, which ranks as the highest scoring game and is tied for the longest game (seven overtimes) in college football history. Mond led the Aggies to a 9-1 season his senior year and won MVP at the 2021 Senior Bowl.
Kellen Mond delivered efficient college stats, most notably being one of three SEC quarterbacks (with Dak Prescott and Tim Tebow) to record over 9,000 passing yards and 1,500 rushing yards in their college careers. He also completed all four seasons of his college career with a passer rating better than 100. At his Pro day, Mond clocked a 4.62 (84th percentile) 40-yard dash and measured in with a height of 6’3”, and hand size of 9 3/8” (30th percentile).
The Minnesota Vikings selected Mond in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft with the No. 66 overall pick. There was an opportunity to start the Week 17 game for the Vikings, but coach Mike Zimmer elected to start Sean Mannion, who was later benched for poor play. Mond came in during the fourth quarter and completed two of three passes for five yards. His Next Gen Stats remain empty since he has only thrown three passes in a live NFL game. We haven’t seen enough to draw a conclusion regarding his status as an NFL QB, but it seems foreboding for Mond’s career that Vikings’ coaches elected to choose Sean Mannion over him in a late season game against a divisional opponent.
Mond's fantasy ranking and ADP are at the bottom of the barrel, but he is usually taken towards the end of Superflex dynasty start-ups as a buzzy name that could potentially take over an offense. Mond was waived by the Vikings, but signed by the Browns prior to the start of the 2022 season.
