The Kansas City Chiefs are trading CB L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans for a 2025 3rd round pick, as well as a 2024 7th-round draft pick exchange. Not the haul Chiefs fans were hoping for the perennial shutdown corner. After the Chris Jones deal, it was an inevitability that Chiefs would need to move Sneed. With the extra cap space this creates for the Chiefs they will be looking at some important extensions, but also look at shoring up their defensive and offensive line holes that free agency opened up for them.
In his four seasons with the Chiefs, Sneed recorded 303 tackles,6.5 sacks, 10 interceptions, 40 passes defended, and four forced fumbles. The Titans add another big name to their free agency haul alongside Mason Rudolph, Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard. Once the trade is finalized the Titans are expected to sign Sneed to an extension which would make him one of the highest paid cornerbacks in the league.

The Kansas City Chiefs have informed L’ Jarius Sneed that he is being franchise tagged by the club. By tagging Sneed, the Chiefs will now need to pay him $19,802,000 for the 2024 season. The nonexclusive franchise tag allows Sneed and his representatives to work out a trade if the Chiefs were to agree with the terms. A trade is possible, but unlikely, as it would require the draft compensation to be in the ballpark of upwards of around two first round draft picks. A hefty price to pay for a 27 year old defensive back with a history of knee injuries.
The Chiefs are in a great position now, they either get their star corner back for another year or they get nicely compensated for their veteran coming off a career year. Sneed, in 2023 played 16 games, snagging 2 interceptions and scooping up 1 fumble recovery, he had 78 combined tackles, and didn’t allow a one on one touchdown until the divisional round game vs the Bills.

L’Jarius Sneed is looking to continue his dominant season in the Superbowl and capture his 2nd Superbowl ring. Sneed, who had one of his best games of the season last week vs Ravens recording 5 tackles and knocked the ball out of Zay Flowers’ hands, causing the fumble the ultimately ended any hope of the Ravens advancing to the Superbowl.
Sneed has been the Chiefs shutdown corner all year, on 81 red zone targets, Sneed never gave up a touchdown which ranked him #1 in the NFL, he also forced 17 incompletions which ranked 1st in AFC. Sneed will have another tough assignment in the Superbowl, in man coverage he will be tasked with covering Brandon Aiyuk, a pivotal battle that just might change the outcome of this game.
