Mike Evans is a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was drafted with the seventh overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. Born in Galveston, Texas, Evans attended Ball High School where he played basketball, football and track and field. Evans was a tremendous high school basketball player, but focused on football his senior year.
He earned Second-team District 24-4A Honors, catching 25 passes for 648 yards and seven touchdowns, and accepted an offer from Texas A&M as a member of its 2011 recruiting class. Evans redshirted in the 2011 season, but put together 151 receptions, 2499 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns across two seasons. In his final season with the Aggies, he was a Consensus All-American and a First-team All-SEC selection.
As an NFL wide receiver, Evans has accomplished what few wide receivers have before him. He was the first player in NFL history to open his career with ten straight 1,000 yard seasons. He is also one of the most useful fantasy assets at his position, playing in at least 13 games and finishing as a top-25 option in PPG every year of his career.
In 2022, Tom Brady's final season, Evans was top-10 (No. 7) in Air Yards and amassed 1,124 receiving yards (No. 12), but caught just six touchdowns, his lowest mark since 2019. Baker Mayfield became the QB in Tampa for the 2023 season and fantasy drafters faded Evans and other Buccaneer weapons. Evans clapped back with another 1,000-yard season (1,255, No. 9) and 13 touchdowns.
Following the 2023 season, Evans signed a two-year contract with the Buccaneers that makes him one of the highest paid wide receivers in the NFL. This contract could allow Evans to finish his career where it began with Tampa Bay. Looking forward, Evans will pair with Baker Mayfield where they will look to continue the success they had from 2023. Even in his age 31 season, Evans is still an elite fantasy asset and a future Hall of Famer.
