Nick Chubb is a running back for the Cleveland Browns. He was born in Cedartown, Georgia, where he attended high school and was a two-sport athlete in football and track. Chubb amassed 6,983 rushing yards and 102 rushing touchdowns during his high school career. As a track star, he competed in the long jump, shotput and 100-meter dash, in which he set a school record with a 10.69 second finish. Chubb was a four-star recruit in football and committed to play at the University of Georgia in 2013.
In his true freshman season as a Bulldog, Chubb rushed for 1,547 yards and 16 total touchdowns, adding 18 receptions for another 213 yards. The following year, Chubb appeared poised to best his prior season yardage totals, but sustained a knee injury and played only 6 games before going out for the season. He returned in 2015 and rushed for over 1,000 yards while splitting the backfield with Sony Michel. As a senior, Chubb continued to split touches with Michel, but still rushed for 1,345 yards and scored 15 total touchdowns.
Nick Chubb entered the 2018 NFL draft, posting a 4.52 40-time at the NFL Combine. Measuring 5-11 and 227-pounds, Chubb is the ideal size to be an NFL bell cow back. He was selected with the third pick in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, four picks after his teammate Michel.
In his rookie season, Chubb was in a three-way committee with Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson and played just 37.4 of snaps, yet still lead the Browns with 996 rushing yards. Chubb has finished inside the top-10 in rushing every year since his rookie campaign and was No. 2 in the league in both 2019 and 2021. He has also never finished outside the top-10 in Yards Created. He posted a career high with 906 Yards Created in 2021 (no. 4 among qualified running backs).
Chubb continued to be one of the best pure rushers in the NFL through 2022. He ran for a career-high 1,525 yards in the 2022 season, adding 239 receiving yards and 13 total touchdowns. He also ranked No. 1 in Breakaway Runs and No. 4 in Juke Rate. Chubb was always seen as an iron man, indestructible at times, so when he went down with a torn MCL and dislocated knee in the second week of the 2023 season, it was a shock to the system. Chubb has been rehabbing all offseason and he is entering the final year of his contract with the Browns. He is projected to return at some point in 2024, and he will need to prove that the injury is behind him in the event that the Browns choose to let him walk.
