The 7th year veteran will join the Panthers once rookie minicamp wraps up.
As reported by Jeremy Fowler, Rashaad Penny is heading to the Carolina Panthers. The 28 year old Penny will join the Panthers once their rookie minicamp wraps up.
Heading into his 7th year, there isn’t much of a clear path towards playing time for Penny, however we have seen players matriculate up from muddier situations. Penny played in only 3 games last year with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The signing of Rashaad Penny may have fantasy gamers curious as to the motivation the Panthers have while having what appears to be a crowded backfield. Look at this signing by Rashaad Penny as a depth piece and continue clicking on Jonathon Brooks at an UnderDog ADP of 95 in the 8th round. Chuba Hubbard is highly regarded within the organization and is an excellent click when you’re on the clock with a 158 ADP in the 14th round.
It may sound crazy, but even more fun is Miles Sanders 215 ADP in the 18th round. You can preemptively gain some exposure to Sanders in hopes that the Panthers trade Sanders to a needy team. The worst case scenario is you paid a round 18 price. Overall, you can gain and profit from this Panthers backfield by letting Rashaad Penny muddy up the waters in Carolina.

Kenny Gainwell continues to stand out in training camp and is the lead running back in the 2-minute offense.
Despite the addition of D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny this off-season, Philadelphia is intent on making this a three-headed backfield in 2023. Kenneth Gainwell is receiving the majority of snaps in the 2-minute offense thus far in training camp. A role that could have more meaning in 2022 with the Eagles facing a much more competitive schedule.
Gainwell was actually No. 16 in target share among running backs in 2021 despite a limited snap count. However, that role didn’t materialize last season, and he failed to garner double-digit opportunities in any regular season game. Although he did seize a much larger role in the playoffs, out-touching Miles Sanders 40 to 36 in three games.
Looking forward to 2023 and Gainwell is clearly No. 3 on the depth chart going into the pre-season. Nonetheless, ahead of him on the depth chart are two running backs with an extensive injury history. Gainwell is capable of filling a rushing or receiving role in this offense, and will have flex upside if either were to miss time.
